Hi Guys,

I lost my domain bigfigure.com which I have owned for the past 6 years. How? Because I forgot to renew it. The funny thing is I only realize this when I wanted to do something with the domain and found out that it now belongs to someone else..:(

I have domains with Namecheap and I have never let any domains expired because Namecheap without fail will constantly send me renewal reminders ... But not this time. I searched my emails to see if I have missed bigfigure.com's renewal reminders but nope.. no reminders for this domains.

Question is can Namecheap "deliberately" not send renewal reminders because there is a hidden agenda only they know or are they obligated to send reminders. If they are obligated to send and they never fulfil this obligation, can I do something about it?

It's likely that they have sent the reminders, but they were flagged as spam and lost somewhere in transit. Anyway the reminders are just a courtesy and if you rely on them, you are bound to lose domain names. Consider this a lesson learned.
I suggest that you maintain a list of domain and renewal dates (excel is enough for a small list).

I doubt there was any intent. Likely the emails either bounced back or were "lost" in the system somewhere. Sorry to hear you've lost a domain name - thats always a pain.

I have the bulk of my domains at NC and get reminders on all expiring dn's -- including some that I like to think would be considered VERY good.

But even with these notices, I'm still a bit (very?!?!?) paranoid and never go more than a week between checking my renewal/reactivate page on NC just for good measure.

By the way, I -- and many other people, including clients -- have had important emails disappear in to an internet "blackhole" never to be seen again.

it happens many times, internet congestion does all these things, really bad to hear about your domain.

Anything is possible but I would guess it is highly unlikely they would do this intentionally as Namecheap has a few instances I have seen of being pro domainer, email probably got rejected which happens a lot especially when using some free email providers, I would keep your own list of domains with expiration dates and you can use Domain Monitor Service - Be alerted when a domain's status changes as well, for domains you can't live without set them to automatically renew so you never lose them.

they wouldn't piss away their reputation on names like bigfigure.com

I always make it a habit to check my Namecheap/EnomCentral account at least once every month.

If it's any consolation, you're in gooooooooooood company. I also lost a domain name I held for some
years because I didn't stay on top of it.

GoDaddy always sends loads of emails to remind me to renew the domains, switch to...?! :)

registering a domain name at godaddy is a big mess as it takes so much time to finally register your domain name. In between you are asked for additional services. Gosh! domain registration was never been this much hard at godaddy.com?
