This has probably been discussed ad nauseam, if so list the link and I'll read it. I'm specifically referring to the buyers that state they have a budget and looking to buy, but never go to Sedo or Afternic.

Are they strategically getting you to list your domains so they can add it to their drop catch list?

It hasn't always been this way. What do you think the numbers mean in members' feedback ratings?

Now, the problem is reflected by so many "requesters" having ZERO feedback rating spanning months and even years. It's a sham(e).

but many requesters, even with a long period of experience and a lot of feedback, cannot even correctly formulate a request. And they do not correct it after moderator's comments

Some of the “buyers” are “data harvesters”

I avoid the “request” section. It has lost its way.

Agree, but 10-15plus years ago. Most investors in domains were aware domaining was a skilful area to get involved with. We practiced and honed our skills in the knowledge that a certain amount of probable losses was all part of learning curve. These days many new members in general, tend to view domaining as a dog-eat-dog existence. These so called 'Buyers' are purely opportunists without investment skills. I agree, I would certainly like to see NP mods step in and determine good-practice. Ebay, and most secondary markets have their own values and good practice checks. Sure, nothings perfect but it would be nice to see the occasional 'step-in' to pull-up those repeating rubbish threads.

Mods are here to be judge and jury and we certainly have had our fill of these posts filling-up the threads. Just the occasional thread closed would show there's activity in the right direction.

It does seem that many with subscription memberships see that status as a carte-blanche to post as they wish

I gave up looking at the Wanted section years ago. I pretty much forgot it was there. I can't count the number of times you offered someone the 'perfect' domain as per their request and they wouldn't even respond, or would say 'not what I'm looking for'. It would be (hypothetically) a request that said "Will pay $500 for a domain that has pet and store in the name". You offer them petstore.com @ $400 and they say they're not interested. Yeah, I know, not a realistic example, but it used to be just like that. I wasted hours going through those requests and picking out some great names from my list and only ever made 1 or 2 sales from it (at wholesale prices of course). Definitely not worthwhile, in my experience.

There have been real buyers in domains wanted, @bmugford has made real posts and purchased names. He does not anymore because people don't seem to understand. Looking for .com only does not mean "Hey bro I know you said .com only but this is a really great .fyi and I would know great because I have been in this business in a whole 3 months.

Many buyers with big budgets are looking to see what you got, email Brent Oxley and say Brent this guy will sell Brad.com for $200,000. You interested? No, counter at $75,000 etc... So they can show Brent names and if on the off chance he buys one, they get paid 10% from Brent on the purchase price. If he says no, they do not reply and you have no idea who they are in real life. Last time I chatted with Brent I think we discussed the number might be 100 people worldwide try to earn a living off Brent, sometimes 30 people will send him the same name, all at different prices sometimes.

What obligates him to pay commision on unsolicited spam?

Not obligated but if he successfully buys a name that someone brought him he will pay them 10%.

Hi

last dnwanted thread created, i got same name offered by different sellers.
they claimed to be "borkering", but only after i asked if they owned the names.

it's funny though, if you know who actually owns it.

imo...

Unfortunately I missed the era when the offers were legit.
