I just got this email:

$6.99 registrations all day - Saturday, May 12th!
Saturday, May 12th, 2007, all new .com, .net, .org, us and .biz 1-year registrations will be just $6.99 at MyDomain.com!

It's the first ever "ICANN Fee payback day".

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the governing body for domain name registrations has dropped it's per year fee from $0.25 to $0.22 per registration year. They've just made this change, but it is retroactive back to July of 2006.

Some registrars are refunding customers 3 cents per name as account credit for names registered during that period. They're hope is that customers will want to put that credit to use and will purchase more domain names. We're going to take it one step farther. Rather than throwing pennies at you, we're discounting our already low $8.47 per year price ($8.25 plus the $0.22 ICANN fee) by $1.48 for each domain name that you purchase on Saturday, May 12th. That's a registration price of just $6.99!

If you purchase five domains at $6.99, you'll have saved $7.40 off our regular price. At other registrars, you would have had to order 247 domain names since last July to qualify for that much account credit. This is just another opportunity for us to prove that the best domain value is at MyDomain.com.

To qualify for the $6.99 price, you'll need to enter the coupon code: PAYBACK into the shopping cart during checkout.

This special code is valid for new .com, .net, .org, biz and .us registrations only and is not valid for domain renewals or transfers.

» Put your lists together now and visit us on Saturday for huge domain savings.

I thought ICANN will raise fees soon, did not expect any lowering fees.

The fees were lowered quite a while ago, I think about 1 month or so. People with Godaddy received a refund of 3 cents per domain which were registered from Joly 2006 onwards

ICANN is not the one raising fees, its Verisign that is raising the wholesale price of .com and .net - thus driving the costs up sometime in October.

I like the idea of lowering registration costs instead of the .03 refund

Now, if MyDomain would just lower their regular price...
