domain My very first domains - intirana.com (+ 3 more)

Hi!

I'm very new to all this so even after reading as much as I could, there are still so many things I don't know. I am aware that first domains are almost always worth well.. nothing but I would really appreciate anyone that could appraise my first domains for me. I'm sure I'll make many more mistakes but there is only one way to learn =).

The domains I got are:

intirana.com
- I got this domain because lots of in[city].com domains are taken and as Albania is developing, Tirana is slowly becoming more popular for tourists.

The other 3 are ccTLDs.

fotogen.nl

medicalsoft.nl
- This might be a bad reason to get a domain but on sedo I saw that medicalsoft.be is for sale and that there were several bids. So I thought well, maybe someone will be interested in the .nl then too.

photo-shop.be

Please be brutally honest, I can take it and I need to learn. Thanks so much in advance! :blink:

intirana.com isn't bad but you may have a hard time finding a buyer. You'd have better luck with seetirana or something that's a bit more catchy. It does have some potential though so you might as well list it on sedo.

In terms of the ccTLDs, you generally want to stay away from those if you are a beginner. The tough part is that for the domain to have good value, you normally have to match the language with the extension. For example, medicalsoft.nl doesn't make a whole lot of sense. medischzacht.nl (google translate for medical soft in Dutch) would be worth something. The photo-shop one is the same deal but you are dangerously close to the trademark "photoshop". It's not trademarked, but Adobe is one of those companies that could probably find a way to get you to dump the domain if they were so inclined.

I'll make many more mistakes but there is only one way to learn =).

A cheaper way to learn is to keep reading these appraisal threads!!!

Seriously though, you would be better off not registering anymore names until you learn more and be careful with those TM regs, those are one of the biggest beginner mistakes.

I know Photoshop is a trademark but I (maybe stupidly) thought photo-shop.be would be okay for a photo shop in belgium. Will Adobe really get mad if a photo shop names themselves photo shop? As well, they are a photo shop. It's very generic.

If I would sell a domain (rhetorical speaking) and after the sale a company gets angry about copyright - will I also be in trouble or just the new owner? I'm just asking this out of interest - I have no intentions of hunting for ™ names and sell them.

If photo-shop.be isn't okay for an actual photo shop, I'll just let the domain expire. It only cost me a few bucks so I'll live (and not to it again) .

This is enough to lose a WIPO.

Hi, I'm Wendy and I'm an idiot. Newbie lesson number 1: pay attention to what name you write down, I didn't get photo-shop, I got photo-store. Yes this took me 2 days to notice. Sooo, you may now point and laugh and I'll go into hiding for a while. Photo store isn't a brilliant name but at least it wont get me in trouble with Adobe.

I'm so so sorry for mixing the names up in all my posts, I honestly don't know how that happened. Brainfart I think. Although I prefer to blame it on being so excited about buying my first names. Only 4 and I can't even remember them. Hmm. That's not good.

LOL. Looks like you have a fan. :p

Photo-store is okay but you still face the problem with the extension not matching the language. You probably won't be selling that one because of it.

Techgal128: yeah I really should keep that in mind. I kept it in mind the other way round - I found good .com names but in dutch and I know dutch companies rather have the .nl so I didn't get the dutch names with a .com. But then with .nl and .be I forgot all about it and got english names. Ah well, I'll remember now .
