Sorry for my ignorance but I have to ask...

I have a site that has made it onto the 1st page of Yahoo,
and 5 out of 6 first pages (for the 6 different possible spellings) on Google.
So, is that the actual Page Rank???
or is there more to Page Rank then just where you show up in the search results???

Thank You.

Thanx alot Galel!

OMG, I guess that is a VERY deep and complex question, huh?
I really thought it simply meant what page your site ended up on, in the search results...lol
There is actually a mathematical formula to it!
I bet they teach courses on understanding Page Rank.

Thanx alot for that link!

Page Rank is the strength according to Google among the major factors in determining a site's page ranking in Google aka SERP. SERP or Search Engine Ranking Position is something totally different where it means your site's ranking in search engine like Google and Yahoo where natural traffic comes to your site according to your site rank. Naturally the higher your serp rank the more traffic you get. Pagerank in other cases does not guarantee traffic but it only has a slight effect (before this it was a major factor in determining SERP but due to monoply by webmasters Google decided to alter their algo) however when looking at a site's quality usually the site with higher PR is more trustworthy. We can say that almost all big major sites have high PR.
Example:Adobe,.gov and .edu sites and many more.

I had no idea that it was made by a Mr. Page, which is where PageRank comes from.
I also had no idea that Stanford University owns the patent for the PageRank algorithm and that Google is only renting/borrowing it.

Wikipedia has a lot of good info :tu:

Amazing huh....

I saw that too, and what about the fact that it was sold but not really sold since they still have rights to it.

Page Rank was a University research project...lol

and then...

"The university received 1.8 million shares of Google in exchange for use of the patent; the shares were sold in 2005 for $336 million"

Unbelievable!

Cool article Galel!
thx
