My hard drive just got wiped?

OK, so about an hour ago everything was fine. I then left the computer to go eat, and when I came back 30 minutes later, everything in My Documents was gone

Thankfully I didn't have anything all that important on this computer yet, but I still lost all my music and some website files

And yes, I had a backup, but that's gone as well! And no, none of the missing files are in my Recycle Bin. From now on I'm going to burn everything onto a CD.

This might be more of a rant than anything, but I am also wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone knows anything about what happened. I'm assuming it's some sort of huge virus, but none of my virus protectors are finding anything?

Also, would it be dangerous to login to PayPal, GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc, until this is cleared up?

Yes I would not login to any site until it is cleared up.

Do a sweep with an updated anti virus as well as Ad-Aware SE Personal (it is a free download also make sure this is updated).

Presumably you have also make sure windows is updated and your firewall if you have 1 (if not install 1 a.s.a.p.).

If I were you and did not have anything that you are worried about I would just format the computor and reinstall the operating system as that is the only true way to be able to ensure you have no viruses.

Thanks, just downloaded Ad-Aware, and it deleted some things. Hopefully I can get this all cleared up.

Hey, at least I've learned my lesson - always have a current backup
