Hey folks,
My first batch of domains offered at SnapNames just finished the auction process. Here are a few first-timer reflections.
Only 5 out of my 20 names sold, but that's about what I anticipated. All but one of them were reg-fee names to begin with, so I still came out well ahead.
3 of those 5 - some pretty good .net's - sold at their minimum bid price ($99 or $199). Again, no surprise.
The last 2 auctions finished today, and those were the ones with multiple bidders. One of them was EYH(.)info, which had about a dozen bidders signed up. Only two bidders had signed up for LowPricedLaptop(.)com. So I figured EYH would go somewhere near $200, as there was a lot of competition for it, and the two premium letters make it much more valuable than the 3Character.com minimum of $135 for an LLL.info. Meanwhile, the other one probably wouldn't get much above $99.
Wrong on both counts! Despite all the bidders (and the objective value of such domains), EYH only got to $124; after SnapNames's cut, I ended up with less than I'd paid for that domain. On the other hand, both of the LowPricedLaptop bidders really wanted it, and they finally drove it up to $234!
I wonder whether it's true that LLL domains get less than their true value at Snap, or maybe it's only the LLL.info variety. Keyword domains may be the better way to go (even 3-worders).
In any case, I'm not getting rich off of these auctions, but they went well enough that I'll probably try a second batch (despite the hassle of transferring them all to Snap before the auction).
How does this match up with other newbies' experiences there?
Cheers,
Dave
