My tweet.in auction at Flippa.com just ended so I thought I'd write a quick post about my experience.
First of all, I went the whole hog and added all of the extra cosmetic upgrades to the listing (highlight, border, bold), and over the 30 day auction I also bought 3 featured listings for it (at $29 a pop); one at the beginning, one last week, and one yesterday to ensure that it was featured on Flippa's front page as the countdown entered the final hours and minutes. This brought in almost 2000 visitors.
Near the end of the auction I also followed up with all of the people that posted comments or e-mailed to remind them that the auction was closing soon.
Tweet.me, a similar name, sold at Sedo recently for $11,500. Twitter is obviously red hot right now and decent domains are hard to find, let alone such a cool hack as this one, so I was confident at least one person would jump in at the starting bid of $1,000. The fact it was previously owned by Twitter would only add glamour and make it even more sought-after, or so I thought.
Wrong. It closed without any bids. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
I also bought a featured listing on Sedo last week and I've already had several offers.
I guess I've learned what works and what doesn't, so save yourself some time and money and learn from this experience
