My expansion Idea

Well i own a forum in the zombie niche which is doing all right and receiving a 100+ unique per day and i want to expand it to cover some of the other areas of the zombie niche like articles and news.

I am think about using a cms and integrating it with my phpbb3 forum but i want to do something which i am not sure if it is possible;

I want to have a number of domain names
name.com
nameforum.com (name is replaced by current name of website)
namegames.com
namearticles.com
namewiki.com
etc

and i want to be able to have each of the separate parts of the website in its own domain name but fully integrated so if you log in name.com and go to the forum nameforum.com by following the link then you will still be logged and and all your posts and commnets will be seen on all parts of the website.
Is that possible or if so would it be so expensive to acheive it would be better if i just took subdomains for each of the sections
name.com
forum.name.com
articles.name.com
etc



If this is possible what CMS should i use?

as far as i know its possible i've seen some places that have this, but i would imagine that its rather expensive as you will need to register all of the domians eg, forum..name.com ect and depending on how many you have could be exspensive

i dont care about how expensive the domains are i mean how expensive to get everything integrated

From a programming perspective, it is possible, but it's also not terribly secure and only users who enable cookies can do so. But, you'll need to consult your own programmer on which CMS they feel comfortable with, because it will take a good deal of alteration to each script you have.
Now it simplifies the matter greatly if your users travel from site to site, can use the same login that they only registered once, but aren't automatically logged in to begin with. Plenty of companies take that approach.

thanks lithium, and would that require a central script that is installed with each website that would autoupdate it self every hour or so or would i have to update it manually all the time?

Your key wouldn't be to have a central script, but a way to give information to all of the scripts, that can be read on each site. This could be done by coding all of your scripts to recognize the same login cookie. Each script would need to be customized, but nothing would ever need to be updated or cron jobbed.

would that mean i couldnt update the individual script without the fear that the entire system would fall apart?



(would joomla, phpbb3, wiki (which can be integrated with a plugin from joomla) work with a game script or am i better to install an arcadeon phpbb3 and integrate it into joomla with a plugin

or should i just use your idea?
