This is a Concept that I plan to develop but will need some help on a few items.

First I want to make a forum / CMS, forum will come first.

Fell free and please do post your ideas, about it.

My ideas / wants

- Easy to use and install
- very fast and full of tools and features
- very easy to skin
- very easy to integrate with your website
- easy to add new features to it
- very heavy and easy to use admin back end (meaning you can do a lot of stuff)

First this will be a php form with javascript mix in, maybe a little ajax (not sure still learning the in and out of ajax's)

I want the install to go very clean and very user friendly, (no edit files before uploading)..

very fast. well I don't want it to slow down with it gets busy.. (may need testing)

I want to integrate tools that most people use when dealing with forms, like a easy to use chat room, or maybe even a in form private Msg system. maybe the option to import word docs and make them as post? or even a easy to use spreadsheet post.

I would like it to be easy to use, and easy to make your way around and find the information your looking for fast.

I would like skinning to be so easy that you can change the full layout of the forum in mins and still make it look like a pro did it, (basic skinning)..

I want it so if you have a you don't have to edit any code to make the forms fully integrated with your website. Things like able to use the forums login as your sites login.

I would really like to here back on things your like to see in this project of mine.

I do believe the term ajax is referring to the use of javascript technologies?

To develop a true feature packed, quick loading, user friendly piece of forum software is actually quite difficult. The general outline and functioning of it isn't too bad, but when you start breaking down what needs to be done for all of the seperate features, it isn't worth the time IMO, it is easier to find a (now abundant) piece of free forum software available all over the internet.

Just my thoughts ;D

If your are seriously up for this I would love it if you can create your forum to fit in with my cms. I will be able to help out whenever you need. As I have future plans to develop a forum it would be much better if we could work together. If we build it around my cms then there will be a lot less coding to do as it is already in the cms.

Hey ZCCool4718 cheers for the PM. I have sent a reply and have kick started the planning with an open plan paper.

Generally it's been made abundant because it was not good enough. There may be a few good abundant ones out there but then we would be pretty much forced to keep the source free and open. Also code will be out of date and it may come down to being more hassle learning and rewriting parts of the code then starting from scratch.

Anyway I'm after something brand new and innovative which will be a fair bit different then the usual forum you see. I hope ZCCool4718 is with me on this.

Like you said though it's a huge job and will not be very easy. Watch this space though. I promise we will be posting links to testing versions of the forum at namepros fairly soon.

Anybody else have the balls to join this mighty challenge?

easiest thing to do is to check with:

www.forummatrix.org
and
www.cmsmatrix.org

both sites give you the option for a side by side comparison of tons of forums and/or CMS systems.
I've played around with e107 for a while, it's a CMS with a built in forum, about as easy to handle as eating ice cream.

Anyways, check out the sites and build your own opinion with the comparisons.

In the long run taking a peace of old software and rebuilding it is wrong, in a few ways, if we at a later date want to sell this software then we will need all the code be owned by us.

As taking old software code can teach us a few things its not what I/we are wanting. I'm out to make something no one else has, something that will draw people to it and make them peace our forum over the others.

More people we have working on it the better it will be, on the other hand.. the more money we have to split if we make anything off it.. Umm.

Thanks for the links. I love how almost every forum on forummatrix looks almost identical. It really should not be a hard task to create something a little more unique.

I have tested e107 and its forum add-on before. Your right its pretty simple. I think a lot of CMS newbies can struggle with e107 though. There's a lot of things to click in the admin area but I don't know I have only had a quick overview look at it.

Anybody else interested in this project we have already got a project area up where idea storming discussions are taking place.
