Hi everyone :)

This is my first week taking all of this with some serious thought. I have a few Domains atm but I honestly acted on impulse. Any appraisals or advice will be greatly appreciated :)

voxiv.com
kingdatabase.com
onedrive.me.uk
sexywire.com

Thanks :D

Don't like any of them, of course I don't like some of my first ones either. I would be interested in why you bought each one, reasoning behind them. Sometimes there might be a reason I haven't thought of.

mummy.biz - don't like the extension, I have no idea what the mummy business is like today

hiya.us - internet slang? on a .us

voxiv - have no idea what that is, if it's a brandable. See an old FB page still up for it, don't like x and v letters

onedrive looks to be a Microsoft TM, I would delete that one

the other ones, don't know their intended use

Thanks for the quick reply.

Like I said I'm new to this game so I'm not surprised they suck in all honesty.

Here is my thought behind each one -
mummy.biz - Me and my partner have been looking into the cost of things for a baby such a pushchairs etc. Then we moved onto the whole childbirth deal. Thought I'd check it out. Could be used for baby supplies or advice etc.

hiya.us - One of my early ones. saw a 4 letter word and basically said 'Yep'. Maybe as a social network?

voxiv.com - this was actually the first one I bought. Sort of reminded me of a drink called volvic.

Onedrive.me.uk - knew I'd seen it somewhere. Sounded catchy to me (and to Microsoft apparently).

kingdatabase.com - Noticed that catchy domains with the word 'data' or 'database' were sort of a thing on sudo. The reason for the 'king' bit goes back to an old site I used to use many many years ago called bitlord. Could be ageneral database site.

sexywire.com - figured there are a lot of uses for this. Obviously sexy is a hot term and wire can relate to anything from the internet to money transfer to phone lines etc.

Mostly these have been bought on a whim but I'll still be happy if I could at least double my money :)

thanks again!

I should have known when I saw the me.uk that you were talking about a different kind of mummy :) I was thinking King Tut.

haha yeah that did go through my mind when I got it, especially since my misses says 'mammy' instead :P

But hey, might be a mummy fan out there...maybe.

I think you need to give it more thought. Sticking two random keywords together seldom works.
And you need to pick the right extensions.
For example, you should not expect a .me.uk to sell at all.

Buying domains is the easy part, selling is much more difficult.

PS: no need to reinvent the wheel, look at what sells. So you'll know what to buy.
Unless you are experienced, anything you find unregistered today is probably garbage.

Thanks for the reply, I had a feeling that if it was that easy then everyone would be doing it.

I have a couple more domains to add to the list which are currently for sale on flippa.

Phez.org

Onedirectionaffection.co.uk (don't ask, its a long story)

Personally , I try and register domains which are relevant to society today. I regularly read tech sites like TechCrunch.com, Trendbird.biz, BBC.co.uk (I first heard about 3d printing on there 4 years ago), 3dprintingindustry.com, and also regularly read these threads. Also, make sure you use the Godaddy codes available on here, there is a thread dedicated to them meaning you shouldn't have to pay more than $3 for the first year on probably 20-30 domains if you look back far enough to previous pages. But really, stick to .com if you can...

Thanks for the comment :) very helpful. .com seems to carry the most demand but I sometimes worry that the available domains are too long. That's probably just a newbie fear though.

There are long domains, and there are LONG domains! If it makes alot of sense and creates an exact match, it's not necessarily a bad thing...If it helps, trends I have recently invested in are:

Internet of Things (inc 'sensors')
Robots
3D/4D Printing
Card Linked Offers
Graphene
Bitcoin/Vertcoin

Basically, check out what everyone else is registering on NamePros!
And finally, use DomainView:

http://domainview.verisignlabs.com/grapher/#

It allows you to type in a key phrase and see what domains other people have registered in the last few days/weeks/months, etc. It's given me plenty of ideas in the past.

At this point, you shouldn't be buying domains in extensions such as .BIZ, .US, and .ME.UK -- all of which are selling very poorly in the aftermarket as a whole.

Very good domains in .US and .BIZ can sell. But .BIZ will die a gruesome death, due to all the new extensions being introduced.

Until you've sold quite a few .COM (or even .NET) domains, don't try buying up domains in the leftover extensions. You'll make too many mistakes and waste too much money ... and, more importantly, time.
