Hey everyone, the last few days have been my first in this domain business, and I finally got around to getting my first domains. As alot of you probably know, the first time is the hardest. I dont know what to look for honestly, I just had to use my gut. Some of them "dropped" (i think thats the term) today and I got them for just the reg fee. The others I just thought up. But all of them were just for the reg fee, all in all it was just under 200 bucks for these. Im fine waiting 6-12 months to see any sort of return, just curious if you guys think my first set of "picks" will give me a good chance to make that goal?

Here it is, my first 29 domains:
usingguide.com
RIPPERGUIDE.COM
warhist.com
IUYR.com
QWRT.net
adber.com
cystcare.com
directdaytrade.com
euvida.com (vida means life)
forsay.com
pepece.com (sounds like ppc to me)
prodave.com
respnd.com
sitli.com
tugll.com
hotrunway.com
lydam.com
urede.com
uscnt.com
whoismygod.com
twizti.com
usebet.com
vdbet.com
vertads.com
vocalvoters.com
warmcuddles.com
watof.com
waywriter.com
webstites.com

Dont be too nice please, this was my first go at registering so I DO need a few people telling me "why the hell did you get xxxx.com? lol, noob!" so go for it :) besides my instinct, its the only way I will learn whats good, bad, and ugly as far as domains go!

I appreciate everyones time :)

Honestly, warmcuddles.com is ok, the rest are pretty useless IMHO. Why not register things that make sense?

Not to be rude but done see much value in these names. Good luck with them though.

thanks for the input :) alba, because everything that I typed in that made sense was already registered of course! LOL

well, ill keep trying! bound to find the needle in the haystack some day right? :P

These are not that bad for the first time.

Definitely keep the LLLL.com 's, IUYR.com is quite good to be honest.
Webstites is worth keeping only if it will get some ype in traffic, which I doubt, as these kind of typos were overtasted.

pepece is not that good, this one needs serious development in my eyes. But surely is a very good brandable.

The 5letter .com 's are good, but you would do better to browse through a list of all avialable pronounceable LLLLL.com 's and select only the best

I don't see any sense for hotrunway, vertads or vocalvoters. Maybe I am missing something.

Keep trying and you definitely have a sense for domaining.

Hey thanks Alex :) any idea where I can get such a list for LLLLL.com's?

why not spend the $200 & buy one quality name?

I just may do that, when I can accuratly figure out what is worth 200 ;) and plus im just starting, who wants to start with a portfolio of 1 domain? :P

Not bad really.

I'd go with what AlexSimon says. Keep the LLLL.coms (The 4 letter ones). IUYR.com is quite nice.
CystCare.com is nice too...since Cyst means a protective covering and goes well with Care. Hold it, its a brandable name that resellers won't buy but an end user would like (an insurance company that promises 'care', just as if you were in a 'cyst', perhaps?)

Other than that, I would also keep HotRunway.com and DirectDayTrade.com

Not bad bro. Here is an idea. Get yourself a hosting account that allows you to host multiple domains. Then look for free scripts to give your domains "content value". Then post them for sale with the content. This should bring in some money so you can expand your portfolio without having to keep coming out your pocket.

try this http://game.namebio.com/

I know what you are saying but do you think that 100 bad names = one that makes sense? I'm not bashing you, there are a few that could be developed into nice sites. you can see I'm new to this as well. :)

RIPPERGUIDE.COM
-how to, latest news about--site devoted to ripping music/content from DVDs & CDs?

hotrunway.com--site that focuses on the hot/new runway models?

vocalvoters.com--opposing views/video of election speeches & debates, or a forum for DEM/REP/IND viewpoints?

best of luck with them

Thanks Sasha, and jh :) I was hoping someone would comment on directdaytrade, i figure some of those day traders are rich... so... lol!

jh3, I have just got some simple hosting from bluehost (like dreamhost) and was going to do this. my only real question is, since these domains get no type-in traffic really, what would adding content help with? Should I be adding content and trying to also get traffic to the sites (using adbrite/link exchanges or something?). I guess im curious, if I wont have the typeins/funds to get traffic to a site, is it still worth putting the content up?

hey, thanks notlikeyou! that looks like a good way to spend some time after looking at lists hundreds of pages long all day. awesome link :)

And i really appreciate the criticism!

If you want a good tip, one decent $200 name is MUCH better than 29 mediocre $5 names. Quality is much more important than quantity in this business. I would recommend returning them and investing in one or two solid names that you pick up at a drop auction.

err...forest

If you would like to purchase the rest of the names on Neticulis' list I'm sure he'd be willing to sell, minus the 2 names you approved of course.

Honestly, with those names you'd be very lucky to even get your reg fee back. If it is within the 5 day period that you bought it & your registrar allows you to drop them, then I'd seriously consider dropping them & getting your money back.

You said you've been learning for the past few days only, then got into it. I would suggest spending a lot more time learning what makes a name valuable before spending any money otherwise you'll waste a lot of money buying names that have no value. Joining Namepros was a good start. Read as much as you can on this forum & on the internet as well & don't rush into buying names until you understand this business better. Hope that helps.
