My call to civil action

OK, so I have a family history of civil service. I think genetics just kicked in.

I helped organize an effort to defeat a development in my neighborhood!

I can't take all the credit, but I did hand out several hundred fliers, made a forum available to post news and comments, and spoke at the council meeting. The developer totally attacked me and threatened a libel lawsuit (unfounded). Thankfully I know the definition and defense to libel / slander.

Anyway, I'm just feeling good...But I just read the thread about Bush signing that crapping legislation so now I'm depressed again. :td:

Is anyone else active in their neighborhood or civil service?

My whole paradigm changed once I had a kid...Instead of looking forward to the next boilermaker, I am looking forward to my kid's world.

I want to make it the best that I can. Right now, I have a pretty dark picture of what it will be like because of all the domestic and international turmoil. Maybe that attitude is what everyone who is in my station faces.

Thanks for the kudos, Mr. Tycoon...

Good for you Tim. Standing fast for what we believe is
what will determine the future.
It starts at the community level.

Here is a quote I believe fits:

A society grows great when old men plant trees under
whose shade they know they shall never sit.

In the last year, I have volunteered over 300+ hours. I am currently working on organising a new dog park; anyone know of a place to get free or discounted fencing?
