I`m quite upset about the last news on John Howard Nuclear plans.

I invite all Australian members to spread this news to all their friends and relatives and just pass the news to as many as they can.

We don`t want that beautiful Australia turns into a Nuclear Dump, do we ?

'We'll become the word's nuclear dump'
July 20, 2007 09:21am

A DEAL between Prime Minister John Howard and US president George W Bush to join an exclusive global nuclear club would ensure Australia became the dumping ground for the world's nuclear waste, The Wilderness Society (TWS) said today.

The ministers for foreign affairs and resources had urged Mr Howard to announce the joint nuclear energy plan during the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation visit in Sydney in September, Fairfax newspapers reported.

TWS spokesman Alec Marr noted the report on the previously secret deal followed the Liberal Party's federal council meeting in June at which it unanimously supported an international waste dump being built in Australia.

"The prime minister says he wants to develop a nuclear industry but he hasn't been honest about Australia being lined up to become the world's nuclear waste dump,'' Mr Marr said in a statement.

He said recent actions by the government to remove legal barriers to an international nuclear waste dump had led the country to the point of no return.

"The prime minister has misled the Australian public many times over his true intentions for a nuclear industry in Australia and he cannot be trusted now,'' Mr Marr said.

"On the final day of parliament last year the Federal Government rushed through changes to legislation that allowed for the first time radioactive waste to be imported from overseas.''

"The prime minister is laying down to President Bush who is desperately seeking somewhere to dump American nuclear waste because he has not been able to build his own in the US.''

what do you suggest we do for energy instead?

Hello Phil,

Australia has so much sun that I see not many problems in using solar energy except for the initial set up costs but it would be clean energy and risk free.

Also we could use the wind.....but it`s not the best I know.

Anyway, here they are not just talking of using Nuclear energy but much worse : becoming a world nuclear dump for international waste! This is just crazy.......insane.

Nuclear waste is so expensive to get rid of that some "unclear" business people prefer to dump in remote areas in africa or even worse throw it in the deep sea.

And now , our stupid Prime Minister wants Australia to be the world dump?

Also, GreenPeace may answer to your question better than me:

1. it's not efficient to harness the suns energy.
2. who's to say we won't find technology to get rid of waste..
3. australia won't become a international dump.
4. think 3 mines.

I disagree and so they do think other Australians, especially the ones who voted him in the past:

The Big Switch summary
Prime Minister John Howard's 11 years of leadership have, for the most part, been years of inaction on climate change. That may explain why polling released in November 2006 found that 81 per cent of Coalition voters want the Government to do more than it currently is to tackle climate change. What's more, nine out ten Coalition voters said they want a deliberate shift away from coal-fired power to renewable energy like solar and wind. Prime Minister Howard says he is a "climate change realist". Yet Australians need real climate change action, now, to protect our jobs and prosperity. Why not find out where Prime Minister Howard stands on The Big Switch climate change solutions?

How about the development and use of hydrogen? I know its expensive to get started but it is the ultimate energy source. If the USA had used that 500 billion they wasted in Iraq for the development of the hydrogen economy instead the world would be well on its way to a clean source of energy. imho.

The UK has a nuclear energy 'dump', my uncle actually works there. Its not as bad as the news or anyone else is making out, its safe enough to walk over where the waste is (Its covered by many metres of lead and concrete) without much danger.

Doesn't really mean crap to me, I hope i don't offend you but Solar energy is useless, it doesn't bring in enough power, is expensive and still wastes half the sun rays.
Solar panels are a new technology and need to be developed a lot to collect enough sun, The sun has many different color rays and the solar panel does not collect all the rays because it can not due to the colors and nobody has got a solution for this yet, Currently our power source is crap, We need something like this and this might be the only way for awhile.
Also as much as everyone bitches and complains, nothings going to change the decisions made to try help Australia.

1. Is just bullshit big companies and governments would like people to believe. I've seen hotels run on solar panels, no reason your house shouldn't. In fact, just check out the solar powered vehicle land speed record.

2. Find the technology first. Why fill your house with crap hoping that one day you will get a chemical toilet installed.

3. Most countries already are and the whole point is that they shouldn't be.

4. I guess it is if you think so.

I tend to agree with the second observation, but why invest in hydrogen, when the sun's burning it up already?

When you have kids, repeat that sometime. And don't think of yourself, think of the family, your friends and people who matter to you, now and forever. (corny as that sounds)

I suggest you read up on this.

Ignorance is bliss.

What doesn't bring enough power, the sun or the systems?
Computer's were really expensive when they came out.
Now you use them to connect worldwide, don't you.

As for waste sun's rays - !!! If we can tap even 0.01% of the sun's 'daily' energy output, we'll wipe out the entire energy requirements of the ENTIRE world for a few centuries. Think about it, no wars for petrol, instant upliftment of the world's poorest, who really cant afford energy, but would be immensely benefited by it.

New as in only thirty years or so? Like desktop computers maybe?
Again, a firm suggestions would be to read up on it.
The earlier you youngsters get involved with this, the better.

It's only that way because people want to make it so. You really want to feel good AND save money - get supplemental solar panels into your house plus and inverter - I'm quite sure you'll end up saving at least 70% of your monthly energy bill. Even with the capital expenditure required, you'd be making a profit in a year or so max.

And as domainers, I guess we should love the 'profit' word as much as the next person...

mwzd i'm not really going to bother with a reply.
Australia doesn't receive sun everyday, they need to make solar panels to suck more energy from the sun, i have read up about it and learnt about it. Till someone finds a way to suck a great deal of the suns energy it gives from the different rays then we should be good.

I'd like to add, i don't think us trying into a nuclear dump site will help either. we need to find something fast.

Chernobyl was a nuclear power plant - not a toxic waste dump. You can't really compare them. Also, the faults in the Chernobyl reactor design have been fixed, so i'm not really sure what the point of mentioning it was.

well.....do you think that Howard would only like to have a toxic waste dump?

They are already talking about 25 nuclear power plants in Australia (so I assume spread nationwide) by 2050.

Stick all the worlds toxic/nuculear waste in the middle of the Australian outback and no one, not even the Australian public would notice!

dry your tears and go and hug a tree!
