Mx record question (and an easy question!)

Easy question: I registered liberti.es at idotz.net very recently. Am I allowed to transfer it to another registrar yet? Or do I have to wait 60 days?

Hard question: I paid for the ability to edit the mx records at idotz. However, at godaddy (where I host the site), it seems that I can edit the records for free. Which one has priority? I'm so confused about this.

1. You need to wait for 60 days before transferring to another registrar
2. To be able to use mx at idotz you need to use the name servers specified by them. Of course you can host your DNS elsewhere, including with free services like zoneedit.com. Again, you need to use the name servers specified by the DNS provider.

Thanks for your answers! :) Rep added.

I am using gmail accounts with my domain which required changing the mx records. When I changed them through idotz.net, it worked. However, when I went to http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ to check the records, it showed up as something else. When I changed them through GoDaddy, google's servers showed up. Why would the servers not show up while the email worked?

If you set the domain's DNS servers to GoDaddy, then GoDaddy's servers will control the MX record, if you set the DNS servers to idotz, then they will conrtol it.

It can take up to 72 hours for DNS changes to propogate because of cached entries. I usually check from a source that wouldn't have looked up the domain recently and therefore would not have a cached record.

One place you can check from is your own computer. Open a command prompt (Start | Run | cmd) and type "nslookup". Once in the utility type "set type=mx", then type the name of the domain you want to check the mx record on.

I see, that's weird because I'm positive I had my hosting at godaddy but the mx servers were set from idotz. I did notice that once I changed the mx servers at idotz, they also changed the nameservers (gee, thanks), but once I changed those back, the email continued to work.

Oh well, I just want out of idotz, to be honest. Rep added. :)
