.tv Music.tv picked up for $50!

Spaceship Spaceship

I'll be first to say congrats to Jimbo for picking up Music.tv (an ex FMA name) for $50! Rare that this will happen, but a true Verisign pricing glitch.

Enjoy!

Thanks to everyone, but no one was as surprised as I was!

Great name, great price, but it's all swings and roundabouts. You pick up US for a few thousand and you are a genius. Pick up Deutschland for the same amount and you are a fool. You pick up Music for peanuts and you are 'lucky'!
In reality, we are all barking mad for being involved in internet TV in the first place (whether as domainer or developer, filmographer or flipper).

The one thing I will say is that I only got the backorder a few weeks ago on this name - and any of the backorder co's could have bagged this name. So, don't ever let anyone tell you that there aren't opportunities out there.

(I would also like to say that there is a direct correlation between the 'luck' I have and the amount of 'research' I do)

This will be developed….
… which means I will lose a load more money on stupid internet TV

I have spoken to Elequa he called me from the UK a few weeks back, very upset with the Music.tv drop he is dealing with a major family dispute. I am not sure how much of what will be made public but we spoke a few times and he did get some other .tv names renewed.

Congrats and glad I could get you unbanned it was just an old glitch from the changeover. In an odd case of coincidence, MusicNews.tv got two offers today, the funny story behind this name all ties in.

So way back when I register MusicNews and LCD.tv in 2004, I actually approached Elequa (FMA) he had purchased Plasma.tv for $15,000 and he said to me LCD.tv was no good and he really liked MusicNews.tv.

What that did for me as a domain investor was show me no matter how wealthy and successful someone is, they can get it wrong 100% too, I knew LCD was better than good let alone no good, intuitively imo it was top 5, Cable TV LCD TV Live Tv these names intuitively speak to the user.

Now I dropped MusicNews.tv and it was picked up by someone else the day it dropped in 2005 and I got it back on Go Daddy Auctions a couple years ago, I always regretted dropping it and was determined to get it back.

This is a crazy business.

Congrats James! Great pickup. I bet they forgot to add a couple of zeros to that price ;)

It looks like I've missed out on quite a few happenings/sales when looking through the last 20 threads or so. Some top sales, great stories and even a new .TV troll has emerged.

Equity - I can tell you love LCD.TV and it's indeed a great domain, but I can relate to Elequa's advice about LCD.TV. I probably wouldn't put LCD.TV (or 3D.TV, 4K.TV etc etc) in the same category as Live.TV or Cable.TV, because 1) building a solid brand around a generic term like LCD.TV is really difficult. 2) LCD is not a "descriptive" word, it's more of a tech-term.

If you build a brand like Live.TV the visitors know what they'll get, live coverage. If you go to Cable.TV (which is close to being too generic as well), most likely you'll get to watch a ton of entertainment, sports and what not.

LCD.TV doesn't tell your visitors what they'll get when tuning in. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but for some reason it just doesn't have the same ring to it in terms of brandability. That being said, I think LCD.TV is a lot better than LCD.com :) Either way, good luck with the domain and hopefully you'll find the right buy sometime in the future!

HeyNow

I see you wrote the following:

"my previous post congratulating the buyer of music-dot-tuvalu was deleted"

as though this were some kind of rude act by the moderators instead of the obvious removal of trolling everyone else sees it for.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and I feel you may be in the 007 category by now.

You continually suggest you are merely seeking 'facts' and 'truthful reminders'. Well, may I add a few constants I know to be true:

1. I am the owner of music.tv and I know exactly what it stands for - and I can categorically assure you that it is not music.tuvalu

2. The government of Tuvalu, headed by the monarch of my own country, Queen Elizabeth II, also know what .tv stands for. That is why they have a long-running deal with Verisign for it to be marketed to the world as the televisual extension.

3. I cannot make assumptions about other lands but I know that if you show .tv to almost everyone on the continent on which I live - they will always think 'television' and never 'tuvalu'. It is for that reason, and that reason alone, that so many major broadcasters and film producers in the world use .tv to show their work on the internet.

4. To congratulate someone is to actually wish them the best - not come along and try and piss on their cake and talk trash.

If you ever wish to travel to Tuvalu to find out the truth for yourself I would suggest you use the official Tuvalu government visitor website … a real life Tuvalu orientated website - oh, and a dot-com going by the name of http://www.timelesstuvalu.com - perhaps they don't know that they should be using .tv or even worse, that .com actually means .commercial

In the meantime I hope you don't get too upset if I see what you are doing as offensive and suggest that you take a good hard look at the obviously more important issues in your life than whether .tv means television, tuvalu or trolling.

To all the others here, my apologies.

The reason why it was not repriced was that Igal (MrsJello/CyberTavern) and Elequa(FMA) had special pricing when people were paying $500 to $10,000 in premium renewals they had $25 and $50 respectively
Why would any individual or group get "special pricing"? Talk about stacking the deck!

Thanks ThreeD this was 10 years ago, I long since sold the name.

Congrats to Jimbo, a ripper of a name, i do remember heroes developed pop.tv at one time, that's all i'll say other then if you don't try nothing changes …..no chances, no changes

Yes Mark gave it a go, I think it is just very expensive to develop a music site if you are having real music and videos, the licensing fees are off the chart.

Mark did not have original content on Pop.TV people uploaded Madonna for example.

I believe in 2014 it is "The right website or app idea can change your life"
This has been the case for many years and will continue for many more to come. Grow one idea/domain, instead of trying to gather hundreds of domains, or distractions IMO.

In the case of music.tv, it doesn't get much better. Well done Jimbo!

Another positive, truthful post deleted. Any post which includes the truthful reminder that .tv stands for Tuvalu is not tolerated. This post may be left untouched to prove me wrong, but my previous post congratulating the buyer of music-dot-tuvalu was deleted. And indeed, it was a positive, congratulatory post.

Many here have blinders on, or don't want the truth to propagate, or both.

Do you have all your 947 posted messages, criticizing the .tv extension?
I hope you did better.

.tv stands for Tuvalu ? You learn something new every day.

I have spoken to Eric about this and warning points are going to start getting handed out until we reach 20 and then a ban.

Everyone here knows what .TV stands for, oh as an Fyi I spoke to someone from Major League Baseball in 2009, we discussed it being a country code and were they aware and they confirmed to me they were.

There is a stickied post here for new investors that states what .tv is. You have come to the wrong place to troll, you must be bored as you have been a member here for awhile. But I have been dealing with this nonsense since I created this sub forum and this forum started the conversation online about .tv.

So endless trolling comments in each post will result in warnings that lead to a ban, its out in the open so everyone here can read and no one can say no transparency, etc...

If you would like to start a post HeyNow why you don't like .tv go right ahead that's fine.

Regarding .TV as an extension, .TV does not make sense with just any keyword and selling domains in general can be difficult but I am seeing many companies using keywordkeyword.TV or keywordTV.com or keywordTV.cctld so there are end users. Today I had inquiries on four .TV domains to follow up on.

Everyone here knows what .TV stands for
Is that a fact? As if to say everyone knows what .co stands for...

Heynow has a valid point, although it's presented in a poor manner. Worth addressing as newbies are always lurking.

Yes Keith, and there is a stickied thread for newbies, trolling each thread will not be tolerated. Eric and the members here have made it quite clear as reported posts will be deleted and warning points issued, per Eric.

Well it's my duty to say, Eric and "members" have it wrong. "Trolling" could very well be a learning technique. Assuming all members and browsers know what .tv stands for is ridiculous.
seriously ?

Well if you wish to be considered a joke keep up your pointless justification for your reasoning, please be
serious when wasting our time and siding with the trolls, i guess you like the ignore list

Heynow has a poor way of expressing his opinion. Poor expression doesn't equal fallacy.

But it does equal boorishness in his case.

even though i am not a fan of cctlds being used for other means, that is one hell of a score! congrats! there are still good opportunities out there, you just have to keep at it.
