MPAA ratings voluntary and not law, right?

So yea, me being the revolutionary I think I am, tomorrow I'm going to attempt to fight my way into the rated R movie Saw 3. I am only 16, and my parents really don't care if I watch an R rated movie.

I really hate movie theaters enforcing these ratings that are only a product of a study group's ideas and feelings. I've done some research to find out that the rating system is totally voluntary and that the only reason movie studios go through the system is to get the movie in a theater, as big theaters wont play unrated movies.

Tomorrow I am going into the theater and I'm going to fight (not with violence, but with knowledge of the amendments) until I get in or the cops are called (which is what some guy at the theater told me). :p

I was just wondering if there is any material I should remember before I go into this thing.

BTW, I am serious about what I'm going to do, but I'm not really that serious about the situation of them not letting me in (which I know they wont as they are just doing their job), I'm just seeing how far I can get with this. It's going to be friday and I want to have some fun. I might video tape it.

Just keep a cool head and don't make any threats. As long as you follow these two rules, the police probably won't touch you and you can argue with them until the cows come home. If you're going to videotape it, arrange to have a friend do it with a small hidden vidcam and don't acknowledge that you know each other if they catch him. They can throw you out of the theater just for having a vidcam.

Good luck fightin' da man! Keep us updated.

It doesn't matter whether the rating system is the law or not, the movie theatre enforces it. You are breaking the movie theatre's law, not the MPAA ratings. (aka- you won't get in. Just go with an adult..)

Exactly...A movie theater can set their own policies for their movie theater, which means no matter what the public law is, they don't have to admit you. Good luck in trying though! I will be interested in hearing if you are successful.

It isn't that tough. I have some good tips that will help you out, feel free to Pm me

Bottom line is that the movie theater isn't going to call the cops or anything. Worst case scenario you're forced to leave.

Their security guard is probably authorized to use a limited amount of force to remove you, so don't fight it too much if he/she is called over and they start getting twitchy. If anyone puts their hands on you, immediately tell them that if they physically touch you again that you will call the police. If they happen to have an off-duty policeman as security, leave the second he tells you to do so.

Please get a friend to video this. I'd love to see the result. It'd probably be popular on Gootube. I'm betting you won't get in, but it's fun to watch someone fight the power (as long as it doesn't degrade to violence).

I decided not to go today as Fridays are when they really lock down on kids trying to get into R-Rated movies, plus today was also 80s day at school and I felt really awkward dressing in genuine 80s clothing. I'm going to try Halloween. I have the day off.
