What are the most valuable domains?
3 letter.coms?

What comes after that, and what should I be keeping an eye out for?

Super premium generics like sex or poker and super premium geos -- names of countries and of big cities. One letter domains would probably be up there too. These can/could/have all fetched X,XXX,XXX - XX,XXX,XXX.

Three letter .coms are usually about 6k-25k depending on the letters. Two character .coms (letter, number) would be 1 step up from your average 3 letter and 2 letter .coms being a big step up (minimum prices around 100k on 2x bad letter).

As for what can be had for less than a 3 letter .com, you have a ton of options (and literally a ton). Some good ones include LLL.net, CVCV.coms, and quality VCVC.coms.

I'd stick with CVCV/VCVC.coms myself. You definitely want to shop around with these guys and researching the market (and understanding their value) is imperative before making an investment in them. If you don't have the time to do some serious learning, go with LLL.nets -- a much safer investment for the inexperienced buyer, thanks to resources like 3character.com.

+1 Reece

any one word generic (sometimes two words too - like StockQuotes.com) .com is great. Nouns are the best.
Country and city names are great too. A big country/city name is great in ANY gTLD

LL.coms sell for a minimum of 80k. LLL.coms for a minimum of 5k (for really crappy letters). CVCV.coms sell for a minimum of $300-600 and VCVC.coms for $100-200.

If you're thinking of investing big bucks though, I would suggest LLL.coms, as many as you can get. They continue to increase in value at a phenomenal rate.
