I've found more and more domain registrars have increased their domain reg. fees. Here is a new one (1&1) that has just announced its new reg. fees:

For domain renewals and orders as of November 2, 2007, the following domain rates will apply:

* .com, .net, .us, .org, .info, .name domains will be increased from $5.99
to $6.99 per year.

A new trend?

ICANN allowed Verising earlier this year to increase the fee that they charge the registrars... by around 7% i think
it was to come into effect towards the end of october...

later on even afilias and a couple of other registries wer granted permission to icnrease their fees .. meanin com/net/org/info are going to be dearer than what they are now..

so yes this will be a trend and more registrars are likely to follow unless they do the usual trick of goin into losses on domains for volumes..

The price increases from the registry go into effect October 15th, expect most registrars to raise the prices before then. Now would be a good time to renew long term at the current costs.

7% a year, just disgraceful they allowed that. Wish I could be guaranteed acceptance of a 7% increase in my retail prices ad infinitum. I would be wealthy beyond avarice in a decade.

Some might cover some of the increase, but most I suspect will pass it on as we are seeing already

I wouldn't care if 1+1 reduced their reg fees. They are total rubbish either way.
