To consider hand registering a keyword domain name, what is the minimum number of monthly Google searches are you looking for?

Is 3000-4000 searches per month enough or does it take 10 000 searches or more?

Thank you for your input.

The monthly search is an interesting metric as it plays a big part in the value of the domain in most cases. But it really depends on the domain, there are some that are low searches, sound smooth, have other great metrics and still sell well.

When you are filtering out domains and looking for the ones to buy initially do not get anything below 1000 search volume but of course the higher the better. Just don't let this be the only metric for determining the value of a domain.

Very agreeable information has been posted. One thing I do is keep it around 1,000 or more average monthly searches. But other factors like competition average cpc cost all play in as well. I mean higher average cpc on a high comp i might even go to a 750. I mean all that tool tells me really is that people are looking for that keyword phrase. But it all depends on what your gonna do with the domain. Google is only going to be good if you develop and rank it. But does give that idea people are looking for it. The biggest thing is instinct. No stat can replace instinct. If I believe I cant make that $1.99 godaddy code back in rev the first year at least i wont do it. But then again renewal is not $1.99 so your gonna have to make much more to make it worth staying over a year. lol

Well google search results do indicate 'how commonly that word/phrase' is used. I think 20K+ results are good indicator of its use. What is more important the context. If the context has no business use and you cannot come up with one, then the name may not be worth. I ask myself these questions before buying a name
- if the name belonged to me, what business I would start with it and follow up question
- would that business be large enough in scope that it can stand of its own (e.g. I would not set up a business based on shirt, pant etc.)

This is a good point cause Google keyword search doesn't seem to make sense sometimes and I quote/link this question:

"Why is the location breakdown value different from the search value in google planner.."
