TV could overtake gaming and music as the consumer's favoured application for mobile phones, according to research.

Services in Japan, South Korea and Italy are attracting millions, confounding critics who said people would not watch TV on a small device.
Read the complete BBC report:

Highly doubt it will surpass gaming. IMO, as the technology improves, gaming will supersede everything on mobiles. Look how gaming has surpassed Hollywood in recent years on consoles and PC's... Who wouldn't want to play Half Life on a cell phone equipped with a microprojector that projects a nice huge 1024x768 image and runs the game perfectly?

Who knows Reece? This is what the experts say and it has confounded critics. We'll see ... one way or another it's all good news for .Mobi imo.

Think about the poor people in several country's without a television...

In the future they only have to share one projectorphone to watch television or play games on a wall or something!

MobileTV/rssTV in combination with the projectorphone will be hot in the future!!! :hehe:

You're right -- but as far as PPC goes, alot of those countries might as well not exist... The ones that can afford all the bells and whistles (i.e. pretty much every single Canadian, American, most of Europe -- in comparison to say, most of Africa) are the really desirable market. Those are the ones that will be playing games, buying music, and fattening our bank accounts if .mobi takes off :)

I agree but poor countries can become rich countries...

Yes, we're seeing that with China right now :) India is in a strong position to be next. Sadly, I don't see most of Africa following in their footsteps for along time...

Mobile tv is coming fast. I have already seen commercials for this here in the US. I think it will be an added luxury that we will not be able to do without once we get hooked on it.

classictv.mobi
tvclassics.mobi
horrortv.mobi
exercisetv.mobi
channelsurf.mobi
viewonline.mobi
worldview.mobi

A few I picked up just in case... :)

So true........just last month Kenya set a record for mobile to mobile money transfers. I believe they did about a billion $'s worth in 2006.

Cosmik, yeah, I remember that. I wish that whole SMS textpay monetization would proliferate even more quickly. So far, so good though!

Keithmt, nice names!

Yep I reckon it's gonna be huge. Think of all those poor 9 to 5'ers spending hours commuting to work every day. Soon/now they can have their fave programs streamed/downloaded to their phone, or throw in a movie card, and watch what they want and when they want.
Bollywood (india), has already premiered a movie on a mobile phone platform and their industry is bigger than Hollywood i also read somewhere that the largest users of mobile BBC were Nigerians, or Ethiopians? I believe. Who needs an infrastructure! Just give me a black market stolen phone from Europe, (saw doco on it), a solar powered charger, a satellite, and you're away. Weeeeeeeeeee...!

s'pose I should get around to developing channelguide.mobi - too bad I have no idea how to...

i can easily see it being bigger than music and gaming ... video and tv make so much sense on the go, but .mobi will need to loosen up restrictions to make them apart of the mobile watching web
