Now heres .mobi a whole other ballgame the beauty of it is that no-one know about it yet, and its doing ok. Just wait until it starts getting hevily developed, advertised and used by everyday people, it DOES have the potential to become the mobile ".com"

Do the math, this one makes more sence than .biz .info etc... thats what sets .mobi apart from the rest.

It offers instant recognition when viewed via ad or other medium. Eventually when flipping though a mag or watching TV and seeing news.mobi you know you can visit via your phone apposed to news.com/mobile or mobile.news.com is just more to remember. (not much but enough for some people to get confused)

I predict .mobi will be the mobile .com by 2010 if not sooner.

Lets not forget the companies backing .mobi

Branding of the extesion is key.

I know there are posts on this subject already but this is my 2 cents on the matter.

.Mobi is more than just a site extension. .Mobi represents a whole suite of development standards, practices and developer tools.

It is its own thing.

cosmicray has been buying .mobis from day 1 ... just

because I don't believe in it doesn't mean I can't make

money from it.

Funny how everyone's forgotten about .EU just cause they didn't get any decent ones at the landrush.

Every new extension, everyone says "Its going to be the top extension"...

It never happens just take it as it is and quit trying to justify the domains that you've bought.

No one can predict the future... all of these "Amazing" .MOBIs could drop in a year.

No. They couldn't, the minimum if you know anything about .mobi is 2 years. So it would be atleast 2 years until they drop.

Everyone says everything. Yet you say stuff too. So who is right? We shall wait and see in time. It takes just one person to make .mobi become HUGE or Die.

Also you seem to have this whole bashing thing going on? Look if you don't like .mobi that is fine. But don't bash it because you don't like the idea.

There name is Google, the owner of the largest search engine in the world and now the owner of Firefox.

Firefox Mobile to become popular is all it takes, Google may or may not support .mobi but if enough names become top for Mobile Keywords "cell phone accessories" shows cellstuff.mobi

That right there would take .mobi and put it up with .net/.us/.de instently.

I have been domaining since 96, and have only invested in .coms until now. The reason I (and so many others) are excited about this new extesion is because its completely different, and if you compare .mobi to . eu (or any other extension) you're clearly missing the point. Offering cellphone users a backstage pass to the internet is what .mobi is about and trying to do.

Personally, I am not trying to justify my purchases I have 10 .mobis which I can sneeze and make my money back with one of them if I want. My total investment in .mobi is less than $400 which is grocery money.

I've had an internet enabled phone for over 2 years now and this offers a solution to the "hit or miss" websites I can visit on it. So I'm digging it.

Bottom line: if .mobi doesn't succeed it doesn't make me or break me, but the internet has to make it your cell phone somehow... It's inevitable. Get with the program.

I hope you are right. I give .mobi a 50-50% chance of being successful.

I agree that it's (internet >> cell phone) inevitable ... but I'm unsure - as many are - that the future "platform" will be the .MOBI, IMHO. Personally, I think that .COM will be the mobile ".com" by 2010 (and perhaps even way before), in my two humble sense. :gl: :talk:

We'll just have to wait and see ... :snaphappy:

Yea we'll all just have to see, I think at least 2yrs maybe 3 because of all the renewal fees that Sept. 26 2008 - Now will generate. Before we start to see some value.

Ditto I dont have a large portfolio (10) but could do the same and it's not a big loss if .mobi doesn't take off. But if I did decide to invest some more I would definitely buy resale. just my 2cents.

That will ONLY happen IF the major .COM players beat the .MOBI players to the mobile punch. If .mobi innovates and builds the mobile internet BEFORE the .COM players enter the market, .mobi is here to stay. If we fall asleep and wait for payday, .COM will take over. Moral of the story: DEVELOP, DEVELOP, DEVELOP!!!!

I do agree with you about the above comments. Me too, I think that mobi will have a good future. We can not compare .EU, .US .... to this since .mobi is for everyone from every where and mobile becomes something like your shoes or more. Nowadays evryone want to have one mobile to be connected with the others and for sure the mobile companies and other related ones will target their development for mobile usage.

In many ways, the over-confidence and snobbish attitude of *.com only* believers remind me of the way brick-and-mortars felt towards Internet based businesses just a few short years ago...and the way print media felt towards its electronic counterpart until just recently.....Just remember: as soon as you become over-confident and complascent you'd be run over by those who have fresh ideas and better service to provide. .Mobi is nothing but a core standard of mobile Internet; if its promoters and adopters succeed in making it a gateway to, and synonymous with, the mobile Internet...just like .com became synonymous with the traditional Internet, the rest is history. And, in our fast moving world all you need is just a few years of head start...just like .com had over other TLDs, which BTW work just as well on the web. If .Mobi promoters & adopters don't succeed in this above-stated goal, then the TLD itself is history. Only time will tell.

Industry estimates state that in 2008 there will be more users accessing the Internet with mobile devices (e.g. mobile phone) than with PCs.
This is why I believe in .mobi. Of course it is more than mobile devices accessing the Internet, it needs to be branded etc.

thats for a simple reason that already there are 4 if not 8 mobiles to each pc and a huge percentage is internet ready. so no doubt there wud be majority who wud be surfing thru their mobiles. moreover, its so convinient - u r connected wherever u r... no need to carry even ur laptop. so the adv are huge.....
