China and India are the fastest growing .mobi users
Release Date: 08 December 2006
Source : MAG news http://advisorygroup.mobi/ngen_public/
Statistics show that China and India are now the fastest growing markets accessing .mobi sites on their mobile devices.

5 December 2006, Cambridge, United Kingdom - Lauri Hirvonen, Vice Chair of the MAG Steering Committee delivered a presentation on ".mobi - the internet on mobile devices" at the Wireless Developer Forum.

Credit where credit is due - it is a fact that the .com is the largest TLD today serving 800 million PC users. "This is a great opportunity for the .mobi domain" said Lauri Hirvonen "as there are over 2.5 billion mobile users whom the .mobi will target". Research shows that by 2008 the mobile data services industry will be estimated at $112 billion and as the number of people who connect to the Internet via their mobile phone increases, the value of the .mobi domain will also increase.

Lauri Hirvonen added "mobile phone users today have a need to access the internet via their mobile device, but they constantly battle with poor and inappropriate content, high data charges, slow access and difficult navigation. The .mobi domain with its focus on this type of user, creating content for the user on the go, breaks down these barriers making the internet more accessible globally."

Statistics show that China and India are now the fastest growing markets accessing .mobi sites on their mobile devices. "The cost of the PC in these countries is prohibitive, but the mobile phone is a part of every day life". Almost 300,000 .mobi domains have been registered globally, with China coming in 2nd and India 8th place of countries registering .mobi domain names.

"The MAG plays an important role in ensuring the development of the .mobi domain" says Lauri "As an independent, accredited industry association our role is to advise the dotMobi company on market-driven initiatives and to represent the interests of the mobile convergence industry players to fully realize the global market potential of the dotMobi domain space."

Not at all, at least in China!!

I am Chinese. More than 95% companies in China have little interest with .mobi.

Companies registered .mobi name just to protect their brands.

They consider it not necessary at all.

Most of big companies' domains have been registered by 'domainers' in China.

They couldn't and wouldn't develop their mobi webs.

On the other hand, Whether .mobi succeeds in China is only decided by China Mobile.

It controled the market. If it could earn big money with .mobi, and .mobi will succeed, otherwise .mobi has to die in China.

Frank, where is your evidence to support your assertions?

Keep in mind, .mobi was introduced only 10 weeks ago....

and China moves somewhat "slowly."

I have to disagree with you frank.
Surfing internet via cell phones is getting common in China. You said 95% of Chinese companies have little interest in .mobi. But are there more than 5% of US compnanies have interest in .mobi? I would say no more than 1%.
.mobi's future is grasped in big companies like nokia or google. If international standards of .mobi is set, China might be one of the first competitors jumped in. Just see how many % of .mobi are registered by Chinese. They are simply waiting like all forumers within this subforum.

Did you hear of CNNIC? China Internet Network Information Center.
It's a super rogue!
It could create .mobi.cn .mocn .xxxxx against .mobi.
Can you imagine the extentions it makes?
.ไธญๅ›ฝ(.China), .ๅ…ฌๅธ(.company), .็ฝ‘็ปœ(.network), ๆฑ‰ๅญ—.com(Chinese character), ๆฑ‰ๅญ—.cn,
.sh(.shanghai), .......

It could do anything only for money!

China mobile controls the enter of mobile internet. It could decided all the wap websites' destiny. And It has killed thousands of free wap sites.

The general are affraid of surfing internet on mobile. Because SP(service provider) and China mobile are stealing money from your phones. Your fee could be taked out and you didn't know why. It's common.

Europe is where I think Mobile will hit and grow the fastest. So thats why I am saying everyone make your site atleast translate able into French, German, and Dutch and what ever else.

When I lived in China, I needed to pay a big deposit with my mobile company in order to surf the net on my phone, so I didn't do it since there's a wangba ( internet cafe) on every corner. But that was 2 years ago. Do people still need to pay a big deposit there now ? Anybody know of any Chinese .mobi sites ?
