domain .mobi for established .coms

Hi,

I have serveral .mobi domains of large uk based companies / brands, that have established .com's or .co.uk's.

How do I establish value and when would be a good time to sell please.

I would be extremely careful about doing such. You could easily be coined a cybersquatter and end up being sued (or worse.. losing the domain as well as being sued). This is no laughing matter. If you choose to go down this route, I'd recommend you find yourself an attorney that is competent in domain name law.

It's hard to really say whether some of the companies may take action against you or not... It really depends on what type of names you registered. Something like Microsoft.mobi, MicrosoftUK.mobi, etc would be ground for a serious lawsuit against you, whereas something along the lines of fish.mobi (intending to sell to the fish.com owner) would not be.

If the words are generic, you're alright. However, I'd advise you not to go around registering brand names -- it's not worth the trouble...

Monsoon would be fine because it is commonly understood to be a storm. As long as the words can be perceived as something other than the company's name/brand, you'll be okay.

Country of hosting wouldn't make a difference, although your location could... That's why I'd really recommend getting a lawyer experienced with the laws of your country if you choose to register names other than ones which can be perceived as generic. None of us are familiar with every countries laws related to domain names (many countries have no related laws or very few) and nobody could give you better advice on these matters than a lawyer specializing in such from your country of origin (which I'm guessing is the UK).
