Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but here is a pretty cool .mobi emulator that shows you what your websites look like now on the mobile web. Many sites I checked (incl. NP) couldn't be viewed. Does this bolster the argument for .mobi? Maybe not, but it's good marketing. :)

Tom, thanks for posting this. Just what I needed. I'm half decent at web design layouts, and this gives a way to test things out, and see if I can learn to build for the small screen.

I was about to say... Oh no, not another .mobi thread... but this is good stuff. :tu:

Before you get too excited - I haven't found anything that works on it other than Google and Yahoo! Maybe they just rigged it to get a point across? I'll take a look at Alex's link there.

It seems that the .mobi one doesnt appear to work as well as the Opera browser. However, that could be due to it being more strict regarding coding, etc.

I had made up a test page for access on mobile phones, using PHP and a MySQL database. When I have tested on the Opera browser, it works fine, as well as working fine on my actual mobile. However, on the .mobi emulator, it only appears to half work, with the database results not appearing at all.

I guess for testing pages on mobiles, the best test is to actually use your phone ( or someone elses if yours doesnt have internet access )

Is there some documentation available which you can use as a guideline when developing .mobi sites?
I have no idea what to take in account for concerning development of a .mobi website and which conditions apply/rules.

Anyone have a clue on how to get index.xhtml to render on a web server running apache? I researched the issue, tried various methods I found but frankly, I don't know much in this area. I tried from my phone, the emulator and various other things. Any help would be appreciated. I got started down this road using the templates available at mobi to start an initial design.

Fundraiser,

What I do is to save all my pages as .html ( apart from any that use PHP ). At the top of each file, I put ...

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="eng">

This might help you solve the problem you are having. Just rename the file as index.html but add the above code to the top of the page.

Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try. Edited to add - Will that pass the registry's enforcement of the mobile standard however?

Check it out.

Just have to keep it small and simple. The mini-header graphic and bullets look ok.

You spelled "Etab" wrong where it says "-db-" on your sample page...
