Tonight .mobi raked in $300K+ in sales and was the 2nd most popular extension among bidders. There were no 6-figure sales but there apparently weren't any endusers bidding as there was in the last auction (1-800-Flowers). Huge success overall IMO. Here are some auction stats to ponder:

As far as Pizza.mobi goes wouldnt it be alot faster to simply call the order in on your cell phone rather then try to negociate some site on your cell to place an order, I mean if you eat/order Pizza you prob. know the # by heart...

what about travelers? the phone # for pizza isnt the same everywhere..

Yes, but you can keep it bookmarked for a one click access, view menus, prices, daily offers, pay securely online etc. Gives the enduser an edge.

From my cell, I would rather have the pizza selections that I regularly make be designed once including sizes (by me) and give the following options: take out/deliver, & display the time frames (20-40 min options offer what is avail - changes on weekends). This would eliminate any language accent issues and errors.

As well, if it is a national chain, it could give me the closest location/directions if I am travelling.

I don't have to look anything up.
I could order it from the airport baggage claim,
from work, from an out of town kids sporting match...

Given that this scenario can be a reality, I would not make a local or roaming call.

As a mobile internet user, I find that many of my "on the go" transactions occur using SMS -- particularly using Google's tools. In a strange town, that's the way I would get the information for pizza places' contact info: http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/

It'd be nice though if those return results included a corresponding .mobi site (so I could see a menu, for instance). My advice to other developers would be to go to the Google SMS group and start talking about .mobi:
http://groups.google.com/group/google-mobile-help
(Note: the link is not to a domaining forum).
If you search for .mobi at Google's mobile group you will find two threads. One about whether .mobi is necessary remains unanswered.

The Google engineers pay attention if you have cool ideas, and they do read their help forums, though they will not generally respond. I would keep comments very thoughtful; nagging that they should have .mobi results will not work with them. Something that might would be a comment like, "Whenever I search the web using my Nokia XX, my phone freaks out. Mobile results would be better if they only returned sites that work with my hardware."

The prices were far lower than most expected, I'd say it was about as successful as a stock market crash. Hopefully the hype surrounding the extension will now die down.

Music Videos was kind of low IMO not even 20,000??? I would imagine most of the users of mobile viewing on cell phones would be teens as they dominate most of the market I would imagine, models and credit score were both steals IMO...congrats to all.
