There are many misconceptions about domain names with overture with extension.For example: I registered a ovt w/ext of 25 a week ago,It was a fresh dropped name.Today it has an ovt w/ext of none.The key to buying overture with extension names is to watch them for about three months to see if the can hold thier ovt w/ext.In many cases a name wont,It will simply loose it's ovt w/ext shortly after being dropped.Another senerio is overture can be fabricated,This happens more frequent than many people know.I once was surfing around,Found a place that offered to take a domain name and get the buyer overture with extension for money.So fabrication is very possible.The other misconception i notice alot is,Ovt w/ext names automatically have traffic,This is simply not true.They had traffic before they were dropped,But many ovt w/ext names are used for website redirect names.Why would someone purchase a persons name,or a cafe and ect and then park it with a landing page showing credit cards?? It makes no sense does it? Certainly not,Even IF the name were generating traffic when people typed in for example.Misssusie.com and they see a parking page with content about credit cards they will simply go away and not click a link therefore no revenue will be earned.Therefore you have useless name that has no development potential and earns no parking revenue,Virtually useless.Although there are some ovt w/ext names over 100 that are true parking gems,The key is to watch the name for an extended period to make sure it is going to hold it's overture with extension,My preference is two to three months.But these names wont come cheap.Overture with extension names certainly have nice value if they can hold thier ovt w/ext.And when purchasing a name with ovt w/ext,Check to see to see if it has ovt without extension,You will find in many cases a name wont.Alot of ovt w/ext names are peoples names,A prior company name,In alot of cases you will find them that absolutly make no sense at all.Example: Fusdwasie.com ,<<If you purchased that name what would you do with it? It has no meaning,It has no devlopment potential and the ovt w/ext drops shortly after you pay $25 from a seller for it.Research your ovt w/ext names before you purchase them is my opinion,Make sure if they do loose thier ovt w/ext that they have meaning and may have possibilities for development.Never assume you are purchasing a name that has traffic,Because that is probably the biggest misconception,A person will think, "I buy this name for 25-35-$45 and park it,It will bring me a nice monthly parking revenue.Simply not true.Once again,When the name was dropped it may have had traffic,When you purchase it,It may have an ovt w/ext of 29,Two weeks later it may not have ovt w/ext at all in cases.

Ovt w/ext means-Overture with extension,Had to abbreviate it throughout some what.

Good Luck And Happy Domaining To All :)

Sure I agree with most of your remarks. But we should not use OVT results in artificial empty space and "in vitro". They are always connected to some concepts, events, trends having shorter or longer duration. What I noticed registering a lot of OVT w/ext domains is that:
1. it is a must to check up if a given keyword do not describes a past event which have been short and occasional, once happened only; or if it is not fading;
2. it is a must to check up a presence of this keyword using search engines;
3. some of my domains have lost OVT output w/ext after some months but they have not lost traffic (so: losing w/ext OVT is not always equal to losing traffic)
4. some of the names had occasional good result on main OVT page but in fact they are rooted in a specific country so checking country OVT (i.e. for nl, uk, de, etc.) is also helpful (for example: 'juli.tv' in http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ and http://inventory.overture.com/d/?mkt=de
5. generic keywords in specific country's OVT w/ext posess more stable traffic than some occassional words met on .coms, .nets etc.
6. typos of well known keywords/services have mostly a good traffic for a long time;
7. there are some fluctuations depending on seasons (as for skiing), selling new products by corporations, sport events every 2, 3, 4 years (when some names become more popular), vacations, etc.

I could enumerate some more conditions which help in being successful registering OVT names. Also a 'good nose' plays a vital role in that business. I still think that, under many conditions, OVT is a great tool for finding good names (but also a margin for misleading results is quite big as you pointed out).

Greetings, hookah

Yes ,One point is missed by a lot of people
If the name had acceptable levels of traffic , Why was it allowed to drop

Good info, i was just trying to better understand how those OVT w/ext works in time. Some domains just mean nothing and have OVT hits.

Why are any good names dropped? Just read http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm and see how many high dollar names are dropcatches.

I recently grabbed a name that had around 30 ovt w/ ext. It gets great targeted traffic. I checked aug. ovt results, and it had gone up to 368! Definitely a keeper.

Good post, I think it really needed to be discussed. Unfortunantly I've been making money off of low ovt number domains, so now you're taking away business! lol

Per say you picked up a name in the automobile niche,If you develope or park the name and have good rich content relevent to the name,Your ovt w/ext can hold,Possibly even go up.This is merely a ball park figure but close to stats i think.For every 1 ovt w/ext = 6 hits per day,Someone please feel free to correct me if my wrong here,But this is what i have found through research..I think it is very simular to google page rank,You can pickup a PR 7 name,But you have to get the name either developed or on a good monetized parking landing page quick for the name to hold that page rank,Would be extremly hard to do imo.

Thanks for the kind words and rep update,Much appreciated :), In no way was the purpose to take away business or hurt sellers that are selling ovt w/ext names,The real issue is,When a 25 ovt w/ext has just dropped,It is extremly unpredictable as to rather it will hold it's ovt w/ext.And checking the way back machine site is definatly a good thing with these low ovt names.If it was redirected to website,Then it probably wont hold it's ovt,The main website name will,But the redirect name probably wont.But it's a calculated risk,When a seller sells a 25 ovt w/ext name they can't guarantee that it will hold it's ovt,They have no way of knowing,So the buyer needs to the research and decide if they wanna buy it or not,Nothing comes back on the seller,The name has the 25 ovt w/ext when the seller sells it to the buyer,So all is square there.The names your relating to above you have and ovt w/ext names that the snaps have for sale seem to have have held thier ovt w/ext along enough period that it is pretty safe buy and a good traffic name,But a just dropped ovt w/ext name is a gamble imo.

Another important factor is to look at the OVT w/o extension to see if there's any cross correlation.

I think the formula is the opposite ovt with ext of 200 for example will get 50 to 60 a day not 1200 a day. IMO, from names I have had.
