The Million Friend Homepage

I thought it would look cool and be a nice spinoff of Alex's site. I know there's a gozillion sites like his, but this isn't for businesses / ad purposes. & 50% of the profits will goto charity. It will be a funky mosaic if anyone joins.

I just had an idea and went with it. It should be finished by tomorrow night, with about 5 people that I need to add to it. Right now only the front page is actually complete.

Right now I'm off to the Patriots game. GO PATS!!

There are millions like it, and even more that have 50% of the money going to charity.

Unfortunately there is only one that really made it, the only reason why it worked if because it was in the news... unless you can get yours in the news, Is wont be a sucess.

Like the idea about using mosaics instead of a random number of pixels but I think it will be hard to sell all the space. You will need to prove some kind of return to the buyer such as high traffic and clickthrough rates.

From Alex´s site are people actually getting a decent amount of traffic which covers the rather high price they paid for the pixels.

I think you need to make something clear on the site. You say that 50% of the "profit" goes to charity. What exactly is profit in your case? Is that after hosting, expenses and your salary?

I agree Alex's site was a hit because of the press he got and that reason only, I just thought this would be a fun idea to try.

I will specify that it's 50% of proceeds, so exactly 50% of what I receive will goto the Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services. So it will be $7.50 per/block. or $20 if someone gets 2 blocks.

I will have to get a counter up. I will work to get this site "out there."

Good to hear, but the other reason was cheap publicity for an economic purpose. This site lacks that. If I were you I would open it up, jmo.

I hear ya. Suggestions? Just take those guidelines out? And let anyone get a block, not just "individuals"?

I did just put a counter up. Free one from web host.

Added this text to info page (still working on this):

"Exactly 50% of the money you pay goes to Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services.

I am not taking money off the top of that 50% for expenses. (web hostings fees, domain registrations, time, advertising, etc)"

Your site lacks desription. I have been wondering what its all about and why should I put my picture there. May be if you could link it up with myspace, orkut, tickle, etcc i mean people registered with those communities might be interested to put their face on a page like that otherwise i dont see any one would be interested.

It is yet to be mentioned anywhere but this thread & my MySpace page (it just says coming soon).

I plan on getting it "out there" when it's actually complete. It's just an idea I had that I'm acting on.

you could maybe do better with it if you specifically promoted it to all the different armed forces personel - a specific target audience (a large one too) - it may generate some interest with people looking up ex working buddies through your website ?

most armed forces have their own websites you could maybe get a link to it posted on - forces are usually very active when it comes to charitable causes. (that is when they're not shooting people ! :td: )
