I have a concept/idea for a domain....could be fun.

I registered chaindomain.com and am formulating a concept for it. I thought it would be cool to be apart of a world record of some sort and since I can't eat 52 hotdogs in one sitting I thought this might be an easier way to go about it. The general idea is to include this domain with a trade/sale for free. The new owner would be able to hold the domain for no longer than a week or two and only once. They could use "chaindomain.com" to forward traffic to a site they own.(non adult) People could then "tune in" to chaindomain.com and be surprised to see what site is being featured that week. If it caught on within the community it could bring exposure and traffic to sites that would normally be overlooked. Is this a dumb idea or something that could actually be kind of cool?

Also, if you didn't want to wait on DNS to update and be able to have the "site of the week" show up immediately, you can use an old HTML trick with IFRAME.

I am not a developer, but this code i easy to use. It displays the contents of another page within a page. I used in some of my old eBay listings and with one of my first sites where I had bought the domain then signed up with VStore. VStore did not provide a means to display the store contents directly on your domain. My old site is still in archive.org. Here is the link . Hopefully, displaying a little code here doesn't make this offtopic for this part of the forum.

If you view the "page source", the code I am referring to is:

As you probably figured out, it displays that big "vstoremovies.com" page. Also, it allows for you to adjust the height and width of the content to "fit" the page being displayed. Also, any navigation done within the IFRAME stays within the IFRAME. However, I am not sure if the contents of the page displayed in the IFRAME is crawled/indexed by the search engines.

Anyway, it's just an idea. If you use it, change the "SRC=xxx.xxxx.com" to whatever page you want to display. I like your idea of "roaming, random" content. Wish I had thought of it.

I've seen this before and it's a neat concept. The way they did it was you could sell the domain for however much you liked, but preferably just what you paid for it. You add your link to the page, and then pass it on. You can change the design all you want, but the names and links had to stay.

I have a sitelike this I don't know if it was what you were planing on but 1)people can pay a small fee to have their site refered to for a week with an iframe or sometimes i do contests.

Alternatively, how about trying to create the longest chain of connected sites? Try to get the site into the guinness book of world records by having a link from one site to the next, with chaindomain.com being the root domain that everyone goes to to start out on the journey.

Everyone would want to join the link, because the inbound link would become more and more important......

Say, on the root page of each site, at the center, bottom, they could place a link that you give them the code for.......

I think the media would pick up on this in a heart beat! Think about it, if you could get 20K domains to link from one to the next, surely the media woul check in periodically.....

Interesting idea, but as mentioned there would be problems with it. If you allowed the use of the dns, but do not transfer the ownershp, then it would work. But someone greedy who got at the domain name would keep it in the long run and take the traffic for themselves.
