You need to look for ways to create enough intrigue/controversy to make people want to tell others about it. The MDHP did just that at the beginning, and that's how he generated the initial traffic.

Yeah, but I thought his idea wasn't new.(?) I thought some dude tried it back in the 80's.(?)

Maybe now just happened to be the right time for MDHP??:|

In the 80's?? Well, let's just say there are billions more people online now to make an idea like this happen :) How many people were online in the 80's?

The milliondollarhomepage is a huge success and for a young chap to have the vision to add a whole new dimension to advertising on the internet
then hats off to him he deserves all the cash he can get.

Not only that if I was sitelutions I would offer to host his site for free and I bet that is exactly what they have offered the publicity for them is way worth it...by the way they are excellent.

As for the miserable person who wrote that article suggesting he would be lucky to break even they must be stupid if they really think he has agreed to
pay $7000 every month for 5 years!

Congrats Alex and good luck with ya studies!

i think he will actually earn some profit for buying the domain :D

for the project, i dunno if he could make big bucks, unless the page is full of pixels... :D

I don't think it's worth that much because I believe it is a short lived fad and that the hype won't last much longer.
Are you saying that he won't sell all the pixels?

I say he will.

And he's about to land in the US and do a media tour.

I think Alex is set for life. Whatever he releases next will become insanely popular as well, since he is virtually a celebraty in the online marketing community.

Gene, how much traffic did you get/are you getting for your $100? I can't imagine how people could find a single pixel ad in all that mess.
I bought a block (10 x 10 = 100 pixels) and I have no illusions as to the significantly small amount of people who will click through. My main aim is that with all the cyber-hype it's generating, not just amongst people but with all the bots and spiders crawling the links that my site will show up in searches.

Well it's not even a site, I whipped up a page with a link to three of my sites. This week I'll be making that ten links. By mid-December I hope to have 50 sites linked from that page.

All my own.

Even after he's sold the last block of pixels I dare say that Alex will be formulating his next plan. The MDHP will be a part of his resume. A living testament to his creativity and business prowess.

When it first started (and there were only a couple dozen ads), I was getting 1000+ hits per day. That went on for about a month. Now, I'm getting just under 1,000 hits per month.

(30 days * 1,000 (min) hits = 30,000 hits) +
(1,000 (max) * 2 months (since, yes?) = 2,000 hits)
= 32,000 hits
/ $100
= $0.003125 a click; better than any rate I can remember Google or Overture offering ;)

I bet the bigger ads get most of traffic while all the little 10x10 hardly get much at all. With one 10x10 your odd of getting traffic are 1 in 5,823. (as of right now)

It slows down atm. There will be the second attention-sharp once it will be approaching the final pixel block. After that? Well, the traffic will die very fast and I see no way to keep the traffic on good level. It will really become a sort of museum with 1-10 visitors per week.

I doubt it. This much traffic doesn't just (die) although it does decrease...
Advertisers are getting good value for money IMO.

1) I'd believe that he's paid $7000 for one months worth of work. The author of that article is stretching his imagination too far to think that anyone would need 60 months of PR. Even if it were 2 months, so what?

2) The author has made himself a rip-off of the original MDHP.
