I agree, be cautious, don’t go overboard with it. But I think if I was just starting out with domains though or wanting to extend my portfolio, (which I don’t, I’m trying to reduce it) I’d be all over it, for £6 a registration, I’d rather get keywords like ‘sport’ ‘games’ ‘360’ in a potential new tech like this than poor quality VR registrations.

So yeah, the first 'Merged Reality' start-up company I've come across. Something to keep an eye on.

It's quite funny though how the name of the company combines "VAR".

I am pretty confident that end users will look at Merged Reality as an option, especially once Intel start rolling out their hardware for partners to develop next year.

It was always going to be the case that things would go quiet after the initial announcement, but we should have a good idea by the end of next year where the term merged reality stands.

Yes this is definitely 100% a gamble as far as I am concerned.

But I think Intel does want this phrase to commercially stick and with a little persistence it may have a little chance.

They are going to be working with some good companies, it's their tech, they are giving open source to what they have, so you never know.

Obviously AR MR & VR are pretty much safe bets at this stage, but a new keyword could present opportunity to not only us, but companies as well.

But yes I wen't way overboard with 10 domains. I think 1 or 2 registrations might be a little more common sense if you do believe there might be a future chance

But Elad is correct. Research is the key ingredient !

The promotional video below is entitled "Intel Introduces Merged Reality" was expensive to make and focuses completely on bringing the concept to the public for recognition. It could mean that they like to throw their money around or it could mean that they're prepared to be well invested in "merged reality" as their core technology in this field. So I could be silly to believe that they would change their mind and use another terminology, but no one has a crystal ball.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what Merged Reality is. For one it's not Mixed Reality. It's in some ways the reversed or opposite of Mixed Reality... and a handful of other things as well.

Just to mention a few from what I've gathered. Merged Reality will allow you to:

1. Providing an ability to walk around in a space without worrying about bumping into tables and walls, because a Merged reality headset would either incorporate real world elements into the virtual world in real time, or recreate them in real time, with the use of senors and cameras built into the headset.

2. Be able to experience a video from any point location, effectively being able explore what you see from any angle.

3. Be able to use your hand and hand held objects from real life like a tennis racket to interact with the virtual world - no need for controllers.

4. I could be wrong, but the ultimate use case goal of Merged Reality from what I've gathered is to create virtual worlds indistinguishable from the real world that you can interact with in similar ways that you would in real life. In some ways Merged Reality is as similar to VR as Mixed Reality is similar to AR...but there are clear enough differences to warrant a different terminology....

My point is in that Video... we see People / Hands in Virtual Reality Environment. That's Merged Reality according to Intel!

Now what Microsoft (Plus Disney Films etc) n MagicLeap (Plus Google, Lucas Films etc) are into Mixed Reality... to bring the Virtual Content to our surroundings (living rooms / desktop etc)

Which of these below you think is helpful!?

VR n Merged Reality:
A trainee getting trained in Virtual Environment where everything (virtual content) has to be built (artificial).

AR n MR / MixedReality:
A trainee getting trained in Natural Environment where ONLY required content could be brought into!

Hence said! Do research before checkout your every other-reality names!

Moreover Intel is more into Hardware (chips n fish) and It has just coined its Headset a new name (Merged Reality) just for uniqueness!

Intel is partnering with Microsoft for creating Mixed Reality World.

You check majority of articles on the Internet and most tech journalist make the following reference, merged reality (also known as mixed reality)

My point is not referring necessarily with the tech side of things.

My point is Intel have created a buzz word. This buzz word hit pretty much every tech site, news site going.

This word is now out there currently as it stands.

There is no evidence suggesting this keyword will be a success. But there is no evidence that this keyword will be definitely a failure.

Both you and Elad have referred to this tech has VR. But Intel have done a pretty good job so far in fooling all the tech editors who refer to merged reality as being another word for mixed reality.

I know you and Elad know you're stuff and I would never question that.

But we do not know 100% that this will not be a future term. Everyone said MR was a silly way to go and we are now potentially waiting on those two letters to become mainstream accepted after evidence now suggests there is a good chance of that happening

I know as well as you that merged reality likelihood is a massive risk. But comments saying it won't happen is a bit crystal ball (esqe) for my liking.

People should be cautious with their money, yes. But Intel just may have created a small percentage of an opportunity.

People should 100% do their research I agree:

This clarifies VR, AR & MR will definitely happen at some stage.

The news we have so far on Merged Reality does not suggest it has zero % of becoming a thing though.

I don’t think I’m going to get involved with ‘Merged Reality’ too much, but there seems to be a fair few on here who believe in its potential.

One things for sure, if the tech becomes a thing, NamePov and other early registrars of the best keywords will get wealthy out of it, good luck to you

I think anyone would be wise to be cautious with merged reality.

This is not a plan to get rich on my part, more of a just in case scenario

I would feel sick if it does become a term and had no cover and on the flip side I am OK with losing my investment on what can only be described as a small (ish) gamble.

The thing I like about this opportunity is that Intel are not in the consumer game, more supplying and working with companies who have an interest in releasing HMD tech.

All it takes is for one of these companies to run with the term and that is the direction I am gambling on.

Companies wanting to work with Intel's open source tech already are aware that it is being referred to as merged reality so it would not be the strangest scenario in the world if an HMD provider also ran with that term.

Turned down a similar offer this morning for my top keyword Merged Reality domains.

The way I see it Intel have positioned themselves quite well in the fact they will be supplying their tech to companies wishing to produce their own products based on the technology Intel claims is called "merged reality".

I think it is highly likely Intel will stick to this terminology and they have the ability to work with some big companies.

There is currently no merged reality niche, but I do believe Intel does want to try and create one

I also see it a positive sign that Intel are kitting out some major sport arena's with their realsense Cam technology which they gained a contract for to showcase their 360 replay technology.

They showcased the potential of this in their promo video. They do mention merged reality is a new way to view sporting events.

I think by renewal time next year we might be presented with enough hints to make an informed decision as whether to renew or not!

I think the interesting thing is that some of the parts are being provided by Movidius. The company that Intel are aquiring to work on their merged reality platform
