I was watching the movie "the founder" (origin of McDonalds) the other day and got to say i recommend it.

I don't agree with what he did, business is war but you still can have ethics and succeed, but i got to admit the man had a vision and persistence.

I think people and domainers can learn a few things with the movie.

1 - is what a good name can do for your business.

2 - never do a verbal deal, always have a contract (in writing).

3 - if you have persistence you can do anything.

I love this part of the movie.

Would love to hear your thoughts about the subject.

Speaking of McDonalds...
They weren't the first to register their name :)

@Kate you truly are a encyclopedia i dont know how you find this info but it truly is gold.

I got out of work 30m ago and i'm still here reading your link and will read it again later.

I'm just shocked how this Giants where so behind and blind to the NET and domain names back then, even when people contacted them asking if it was OK or if they didn't want their company "domain name" :xf.eek:

"That left more than 50 percent of the Fortune 500 names still available to first-comers."

"fox.com is registered to something called the Flexible Online eXchange, in California. (I couldn't believe that Fox hadn't figured it out. I mean, the Internet was mentioned on an episode of The Simpsons, and Rupert Murdoch was smart enough to grab Delphi, the national Internet gateway service. Fox does, in fact, maintain an address at delphi.com, through which viewers can offer feedback.)"

Were these companies so relax back then that they really think a Big Foot letter would resolve their problem in the future so easily.

I mean if the owner was a company with low capital the big company could burn them down with "money" but if it was another big company with capital and had a case they could lose and down the road they would be force to buy the domain name from the owner and of course the ball will be in the owner court yard (they could ask for a giant $$$$$$$ if they even would sell the domain to them).

Also props to JOSHUA QUITTNER for being the first person to own mcdonalds.com even after talking to Jane Hulbert at McDonald's

A good example of a company getting a big burn is MTV with Adam Curry they gived him the OK to reg MTV.com then fired him and begin the journey in court, didnt research to see if Adam won but from what i read it seems he own and MTV had to buy MTV.com from him down the road.

Karma is a bitch :xf.grin:
