We (again) changed our main web server and IP addresses today for NamePros.

The new server is at least 2X more powerful than the previous one. Hopefully this translates into a much faster experience for everyone while browsing the site.

Please report any errors here in this thread.

No errors as of yet! :tu:

Previous server was pretty fast too, didn't notice any lag.

But if this is 2x faster, that's always better. :)

There's a noticeable difference in page loading speed and the site, overall, is much more responsive.

I was gonna make a post about the server updates, and I see this, and I want to say the speed and overall performance is a lot better. This should have been done many time ago. Hopefully there will no longer be any down time for database backups right?...

85/100 marks for this flawless upgrade.
15 marks gone for making this decision today. It should have been done many long time ago. Glad it is done!

Correct, there is no longer downtime for the daily backups. On this new server we have a CDP-based backup method in place instead of the old mysqldump way.

Our datacenter is now located in Las Vegas, Nevada instead of Dallas, Texas. It's blazing fast for me here at home (in Vegas). I am glad to hear there is a noticeable improvement around the rest of the world as well. :tu:

Has the overall index been migrated? I'm finding that searches are coming back with "no results founds" far more often than I would expect.

I looking for specific auction user and am searching via domains that I know he has listed for sale and the search shows nothing. I'm just curious if this is a real or imaginary issue for me.

Speed is great.

Thanks

I do not believe the search index has been rebuilt yet. It's a very server intensive process given the amount of posts NP has. I may have to try to write up a command line script to take care of it, to try and reduce load as much as possible.

Backup time was important

wash, pee, eat, and say ello to my family :bingo:

but to be serious ....Speed time .... :kickass:

There was one error that occurred during the switch. The import of the search index crashed on the word table leaving about 500,000 (of 4 mil) words that didn't make it into the new database. We'll either rebuild the index or find a way to import the missing records.

Ain't it always the way that SOMEONE finds SOMETHING that didn't go right to ruin all the good vibes :)

More in case there was a problem you were unaware of.

Thanks for the updates. General use is much improved!

Seems like some history got really truncated too. Some auction threads only go back under 1 year.
