Anyone get one of these? I started to open the notice, then thought better of it and cancelled before it opened. At the same time, my 'Alert' said malware was detected and it was dealing with it.

Hi WHOISGUARD PROTECTED

A third party has filed a trademark infringement cease and desist notice for your domain ********.com

You can download the notice here **********. Inmost cases you should take it seriously to avoid further legal trouble. However for random complaint
without any valid reason is quite common and you can ignore.

In case the copyright notice is applicable and unresolved contact your domain registrar and they will
help you to resolve the issue. Please note that, we don't consult anyone individually.

Regards

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Notice the English and sentence structure is very poor. That is a SURE SIGN of a fraudulent e-mail. Any type of real legal correspondence would be much more professionally worded.

Could be. I never open anything in something like that, but had a brain dead moment and started to out of curiosity.

My personal opinion is it's a scam from an email marketer to try and get us to drop the domains we have so they can pick them up.

I also think the document has malware but I didn't download it.

The email address it's sent from is: [email protected]

If you goto www.claimdomainright.com you see it's an email marketer login page.

Be safe guys.

I got 2 of these today.

I was/am also worried because, one of the domains, I pitched to a very big exact match company. Think "appleVR".

Isn't it strange that we're all members of the VR thread here? :xf.confused:

I'm choosing to ignore it because I found the emails in my Junk folder and, their grammar sucks.

I agree with @HoloShopDotCo. It feels like a scheme to steal our worthy domains.

This is the second very savvy spam that I got. I am wondering if they are targeting domain names that are owned by people on this forum for the specific reason to phish owners with valuable domain names.

edit* The domain I was contacted at was 112511, a 6N which I did not post anywhere. So, probably not.

The other one I received was very tailored, stating that my "folder capacity was being exceeded on BlueHost". I do have hundreds of folders on my hosting account, but I don't even use BlueHost.

The link looked legit, but it was just a fake cover for the actual link that pointed to some b.s. site.

Thanks for the heads up on the C & D spam.

I haven't received an official C&D before. To anyone who has, do you receive an official letter by post?

C&D's are garbage. It's just a formal way of someone letting you know that they don't like what you are doing.

They can send it any way they want; physical mail, eMail, a singing telegram (not recommended).

When it comes to domaining you should politely and factually reply to every C&D, because if they are serious and considering WIPO resolution it will only help you if you responded in good faith.

You don't have to respond at all, but you could sway them from filing a UDRP at the point of the C&D issuance if you lay out your prima facie case, the facts as you see it, to them. Nothing halts a UDRP faster than letting the person know that you know what RDNH is (reverse domain name hijacking).
