Making a portal of many sites, which extension do I use?

I am going to try and create a portal for a niche I have thought of. Do I want the extensions (.com/net/org/etc.) to all be the same or is it ok to have some .org, some .info, and so on? Does it matter?

much better for me and promote 1 portal instead of many, you said portal not minisite? make different domains to increase pr as well.

Sorry for such a newb questions, but what is the difference in a portal vs. a minisite?

A minisite is a small Web site with a narrow subject focus or few pages that is sometimes a section in.

portals are entrances to different sites or functionalities.
ex. yahoo.com is a portal
but it registered different country .tld

turnkeyzone.com client's are niche/minisite owners so they need different domains for their turnkeys.

If you are sure you are going into the business for 3 years, then register all domains and redirect all to .COM

Develop and promote your .COM in your own way.

One domain with subdomains would be my preference. Otherwise definitely go for domains with the same extension. I have a network of .infos. I could have got a mixture of .coms, .nets, .orgs, and .infos, but that would have made it harder to remember the domain and reduced type-in traffic (not to mentioning making the whole thing look unprofessional).
