Is it ok to 'borrow' lyrics from a site? Like...going to lyrics.com and making a new page, but using their lyrics for the content? is it ok if i put "Source:lyrics.com" or can I do that for news sites if i open one up? :-P
Thanks!

No, lyrics are copyrighted. Now, if you have a nice fansite that is truely a fansite, if you had lyrics on there, they probably won't bother you.

The question was asked about the legality of copyrighted material. Yes, lyrics are everywhere and probably illeaglly used. But an artist does not want to lose their fan base by challenging them. I am sure that if a site is selling the lyrics, they will be notified, otherwise; like I said, you would be left alone.

What if we put them up for public viewing. I dont plan on selling lyrics. I just want to be sure before I begin some coding ;)

Like it has been said, it is not legal. But is it enforced? Probably not unless the use of it gains a profit. So depending on the site you have in mind would dictate whether it increases the chances of being caught.

I see you are looking for an "ok, go ahead and use it answer", but legally, that can't be given. The only safe way to legally do it is to recieve permission from the coptright holder. That is the only safe way. If it is a fansite, they should have no problme giving permission.

there have been several cases in the last couple of years of lyric sites being forced to remove their content.
