Just got my first mobi site up, LVH.mobi - Las Vegas Hotels. Still working on it, but I'd appreciate any good or bad comments on it, ideas for it etc. It got a 3 of 5 from the mobi tester :(. Got to get that up. It looked ok on my Blackjack, but not sure on smaller screens. Thanks in advance. :)

Great to see yet another site. Thanks for your contribution to development.

Some feedback:
-Good idea to use the colors of the vegas sign.
-The ".mobi" in the top logo is a bit too condensed for me.
-I think the photo of the vegas sign is taking up too much screen real estate. Probably better to crop it or maybe better to remove its background altogether.

Great start!

Thanks Scandi, appreciate the feedback. I'll look at those ideas.

Sorry Charlie, don't know what you mean? why would I need to do that, this is a famous picture.

Hi Hawkeye,

Great site. I like the logo and the look and feel.

Regarding getting 5/5, I can probably help you there. First is put the following on the top (first line ) in your xhtml/php file:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD XHTML Mobile 1.0//EN" "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/xhtml-mobile10.dtd">

and remove this line from you file :
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:v="urn:schem .........

This itself should improve the score. After this you have to look in more details on the markup.

Keep-up the good work.

Regards,

Vcool

Looks nice, ready for some ppc ads to be slipped in later...

LVH is also the stock symbol for LasVegasFromHome, company trades on the Toronto stock exchange. LAS VEGAS FROM HOME.COM ENTERTAINMENT INC. is an E-gaming software developer and provider, and through its wholly owned Antiguan subsidiary, Action Poker Gaming Inc., licenses its software to third parties.

Pretty good looking but imho you should be doing a black background..vegas is more of a night town. Maybe some light stars in the background if possible. You should be able to get the vegas sign at night and/or crop it.

Dude, just because you find it online doesn't mean you can use it. Someone still took the image and its copyright belongs to them. I'm just trying to help you out. Trust me I have seen battles between people who took images from someone else's site and the owner of the image. It's best to look for images from sources that offer them up for free, not Yahoo!'s image search ;).

Thanks all for the feedback. Hoping to ad some ads soon. I looked at some night shots of the pic labrocca, but the color scheme started to change, and not sure if I want to do that. I kinda like the red/blue thing.

Don't get why you say I took someone's copyrighted image. It is just a generic pic. If you look up Las Vegas sign under Yahoo images, you'll see lots of different views of the same pic.

Anytime someone takes a pic or puts words on paper they acopyright to that. You can't just take an image off the web and use it unless the person has put it in the public domain. I'm sure someone has put a picture of that sign in the public domain and if you do a search you could find it.

That being said you can go to fotolia and get the image for a buck. I do that alot when I need an image. I figure a buck is a small price to pay to the person who has taken the picture. Here is a link to fotolia for "vegas sign"

http://www.fotolia.com/search.php?k...andw=&search_only_panoramic=&cca=&ca=&p=&cou=

Honestly though, I don't know if it is legal to take a picture of the sign and use if for commercial purposes. I wouldn't expect that I could go take a picture of the golden arches and use that in a website where I am going to make money from something dealing with fast food.

Nice site by the way :gn:

Hi,
well done for developing a site. Nice idea to use LVH for that :snaphappy:
one thing would be to add the line of code to each listing so they can click the phone number & hey presto it's ringing.
If at the other end they say, where did you get our number.
Oh, i've come straight through from LVH.mobi
Then later on you may even be able to get sponsored listings in a directory style format
On the right track B-)

Nice...

But why not using this syntax arround the phonenumbers:
Code:
<a href="wtai://wp/mc;16504808000">16504808000</a>

People can call immediately when clicking on a phonenumber...

Not that wikipedia knows everything, but if you read this you will see that the design is in public domain. So using it as is being done seems fine. But using someone else's photo of it is inappropriate. Fotolia for a buck seems reasonable enough.

Guys, being that I've owned my own business for 18 years, and did done graduate the 3rd grade, I understand copyright talk. And if someone wants to go thru the whole web to see if I've 'copied' a pic, be my guest. When I get served legal papers I'll change the pic, and let the process start all over. geez. It's not like I'm using a pic that only one person has! It is a common pic, seen and used the world over, and there over 11,000 images of it in yahoo alone.

I'll look into that coding idea on the phone numbers. That could be interesting.

Thanks all for the feedback.

hawkeye,

love the site!!!! Some constructive comments if you will... in our marketing department we sometimes mirror our message a little too much, sometimes leading to the term "redundancy redundant department". I'm getting to the point.

In your copy in the middle you have 'LVH.mobi - the mobile source for Las Vegas Hotels.'

Now, you already have Las Vegas Hotels in the title, which at least to me, I automatically related LVH.mobi as being the Las Vegas Hotels ultimate source destination. Doing this will also make your homepage shorter with less scrolling, or at least free up the middle section for different copy.

Just my two cents!

The few repeats though help with padding the page with relevant keywords for seo. This will be a difficult dance for us all since more content rich (read bigger) sites tend to rank better for SEO but are counterintuitive for mobile users. My hope is that the search engines that address mobile users will rethink their ranking methods.

Scandi, mostly agree with you, but one needs to be careful when doing this especially when the page itself has very little content(text). Key word density(kwd) is an important factor in any seo campaign. If the kwd ratio is too high, that can have negative effects. As I see it now, the keyword to copy ratio is a little high. Then again, who know exactly how search engine algorithms work or if the same rules even apply to the mobile realm...

I guess I mostly agree.

Yea, it is a tough call. Do you have any suggestions on how to test or track this issue for mobile seo?

Nice site hawkeye,
I like the color layout a lot.

One thing I would like to see (as a consumer)
would be links to the other pages at the bottom. Avoid re-scrolling back to the top to see other listings.

Who knows, some of them maybe interested in their "own" page on your site where you can click to get more info/special deals directly from your site? just a thought

Good Job!
