Maybe they realized there are better domains out there Such As TheIraq.com and wanted to invest accordingly.

Glad to see that Sedo is taking a more proactive approach in cancelling fake auctions. Its about time.

In fairness, the owner of LRAQ never mentioned anywhere that it's IRAQ. Bidders should actually take a closer look before placing such huge bids...

As far as I am aware, the owner pulled the auction - not Sedo.

It is the owners obligation to clarify the correct domain name, Not the buyers.

Jasdon is right, the owner - dolansco - pulled the auction on his own.
See DNF/showthread.php?t=198485
Sedo asked the bidders, whether they really wanted to bid on LRAQ.com. If they agree, the auction goes on.

EDIT:
No live links to other domain forums.

in sedo the names r ALWAYS in lowercase, so it was LRAQ.com
it wasnt neither dolansco's nor sedo's fault

the owner did the right thing... many trouble will be avoided :imho:

The point isnt as much who was right or wrong...

Sedo must have known there was something amiss when a $100 (tops) 4LLLL com hits 30 grand.

And what about the bidders?
Bidder # 7 proxied up to 31,000 (as far as we know, it may have been higher) and bidders # 8 and 5 chasing him until it was pulled/cancelled.

Who bids this much without research?

Like I said.... Doh!

I blame the sales site for making it too easy to spoof characters. domain name sales should be shown in fonts that don't confuse, or that use several ways of showing the data such as:
===================

lraq.com (lower case)
LRAQ.COM (upper case)
Lraq.com (mixed case)
L R A Q (spaced)

character mask LLLL.com
Includes numbers = NO
IDN character set = NO
====================

1raq.com (lower case)
1RAQ.COM (upper case)
1raq.com (mixed case)
1 R A Q (spaced - to avoid letters like vv as w)

character mask NLLL.com
Includes numbers = YES
IDN character set = NO

===================

By templating domain listings as above, there is less chance of the bait and switch character game. How hard could this be?

:bingo: This will definitely be the best solution. Or at the minimum, in lower and upper case.

IDNS will soon be at the forefront of the domain business, Sedo and many of the others "shop windows" have done very little if anything to prepare for an explosion waiting to happen.

The lrag.com debacle is not the first huge error perpetrated by Sedo , and not even an IDN- how difficult is a simple quality control monitor program , or god forbid , a human to do the checking - how many auctions on at one time :?

Excuse me, what do you mean with "IDNS"?

Well I know what IDNs are. I don't see, however, how they have anything to do with a cancelled auction on Sedo.

good to see sedo got it fast.
they need to make it to show in caps and lower case to keep problems like this from happening so much
