Low Response Rate to Outbound Emails – What Could Be the Issue?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been actively doing outbound marketing for some of my domain names, mainly targeting businesses with exact-match domains that are highly relevant to their services.
However, I'm facing a recurring issue: most of my emails are either ignored or receive no response at all, even when the domains are brandable, geo-targeted, or highly relevant to the recipient's niche.
I’m trying to evaluate where the problem might be. A few possibilities I’m considering:
– My emails are landing in spam folders
– I'm not reaching the right decision-makers
– My subject lines or message content isn’t engaging enough
– The value proposition isn't clear or urgent
I'd love to hear your insights:
• What common mistakes should I look for?
• How do you increase your response rate?
• Are there tools or strategies you recommend to improve targeting or deliverability?
Any feedback or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

And why don't out bounders even check that the target recipient is using a website on their target address. NO I don't want the lesser hyphen, plural or .net on a better domain that's already listed for sale by me.

Yeah, you do get offered a lot of rubbish by some spammers. (I'll call them spammers, because if they're sending from a gmail address offering a domain that isn't even registered, that's what they are.) Anyway, the only time I appreciated this was once when I was offered the plural version of a domain I already owned. I considered offering the guy $20 for it, but when I checked the domain, it had just dropped and wasn't even registered. I promptly did a defensive registration on it. Thank you mister spammer. :)

As for the OP's question, I don't think I can add much. Some good suggestions have already been offered, but I think consistently successful outbounding is a skill that takes a long time to develop, and few ever get there.

Does it? Thanks for feedback... definitely not the vibe I'm looking to give off with anyone... and if someone ever said that to my face I'd be bummed out... lol

Hi

it’s best if it was said to your face, rather than being said behind your back!
in this biz most will say what you want to hear,
but only a few will tell you what you need to know

imo….

If you're writing your emails with AI then they are definitely landing in spam.

That said outbound is a numbers game with low quality names like those listed. You probably need to be sending 1000-2000 emails per domain to even get a reply and even then the reply is likely to be 'get lost'.

You're on the right track identifying possible weak points. In my experience, the most common causes for low response rates are:

  1. Generic or unclear messaging – make sure your email highlights the domain’s unique value in one glance.
  2. Poor targeting – verify you're contacting decision-makers, not generic inboxes.
  3. Deliverability issues – use tools like MailTester or NeverBounce to improve inbox placement.
  4. No personalization – a tailored first line can double your chances.

Try A/B testing your subject lines and keep follow-ups short and spaced. Outbound is a numbers + refinement game.
