It happened only once to me, they came back after 2 weeks, they said...

I think it's not about the strategy but just the amount they're willing to afford(and I'm willing to sell).

What if someone advertised that they had a house for sale and were taking offers of $50 and up. Is that not deceptive? Should they get mad when someone offers them $100 for the house, with or without a story?

Then why are so many domains worth $$$$+ left with standard $20 minimum offer? Is it not being misleading?

I do know that occasionally tiny initial offers grow, and that is why some domainers have low minimums, but if we are going to allow low minimum offers, I don't think we should complain when people submit offers within the permitted range.

I don't have a problem with auctions starting low, but if it is an offer/counter offer situation I think the minimum offer should be at least in the ballpark of what you might accept on a generous day.

Personally I like using no minimum offer. To me I find that data valuable, even if I won't sell the domain for anything near that. It helps me decide when and by how much to adjust pricing (especially when the low ball is clearly from another domainer because I can usually assume they value it at 10-20x their offer). Also with deciding what to drop. Not one even low ball offer over a period of several years has got to get me thinking, unless its targeting a future-looking term.

Also, with my own landing pages which I am working on, I could try to get the buyer to opt into email updates so I can notify them if the price does drop, and maybe over time they come to accept the real value.

Personally I like using no minimum offer.

I agree that no specified minimum can be helpful, for reasons you cite. I would prefer that to an unreasonably low minimum. However, some marketplaces, one major one at least, require you to set some specific minimum.

I had some low-ball offers yesterday... the person made me offers on multiple domain names, and each offer was less than my investment.

Not much later, two of the domain's he was willing to give me $40 - $50 for turned into $150 from another more serious buyer.
