I've had an interesting experience lately that I thought it might be curious to relate here:
A few months back I picked up the name of a very major corporation in a relatively major TLD. It made the reg. fee back in just a couple of weeks when parked.
Needless to say it didn't take them long to send me out a Cease & Desist order (my first and only) by registered mail......."You have no right for this domain, the fact that you're parking it proves you're just out to make money etc. etc."
I did the smart thing and said "of course, I'll give it to you". After a very amicable exchange, it was transferred to them within a week.
Anyway, that was many weeks back and they haven't bothered to change the nameservers so its still sitting there, gathering up daily revenue.
I'm not advocating domain squatting but its interesting to me that:
1) the big company wasn't smart enough to register its TLD in a major market
2) they wouldn't just redirect it to their own site. They've probably lost quite a few customers that way.
The whole thing leads me to think that quite a few big companies haven't caught on to the best ways to optimize their domains.
