Anybody here have any "MySpace" domains? C&D letter may be on the way

They have become a bit of protective or maybe arrogant since they have now become number one in social networking beating Friendster.

This is to be expected after their acquisition by NewsCorp. Really, the speculation on the typos was a bit extreme as well -- the downside risk that may have been ignored is now eminently clear. Typos are never a safe investment.

They can sue anybody for any reason, or no reason. Newscorp has lawyers on staff that have to keep busy you know...

I got a C&D letter from American Express a few years ago about my domain AmericanaExpress.com which I regd to develop as an Americana music site. I never developed the site and let the domain expire... never got another letter from them.

Or check this out "My Space Games" or "Myspacegames" How would they take that? They can't... it's a generic term with "My" infront of it.

It doesn't mean that you may not be able to win a court case on it, but if history and reading court cases have taught me anything, it is that an army of high priced lawyers normally win more than they lose.

You never know and it doesn't mean you might not get a C&D. Often times, companies will send out C&D even if they are not thinking about suing. Many people just hand over domains.

This would probably have not happened if MySpace wasn't acquired by NewsCorp. That being said, big companies like to (and can) protect their trademarks online.
