I registered some domain names back in 1997 for websites that are either no longer active or were never completed. I receive emails from time to time with offers, but I'm not sure what the names are actually worth. I learned about NamePros through an article on SitePoint and the community seems great! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the names I am interested in selling:

ibanks.com
icorp.com
icorp.org
gony.com
pizzerias.com
onlinetrade.net
exportnet.com

Welcome to Namepros.

Pizzerias.com and gony.com stand out to me as the two with the most value. I'd say mid $x,xxx on each.

Fantastic lot of aged domains. Sent you a PM. Be Careful!

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I will be going the auction route. I will post an update on how things are going.

These are nice names.

I'm testing out a new domain appraisal system. It's very much in Beta, but for your enjoyment, here's what it says about your names:

pizzerias.com $7,647.90
ibanks.com $2,503.65
icorp.com $2,478.00
gony.com $5,626.44
onlinetrade.net $789.30
exportnet.com $13,080.46

Auction is definitely the way to go with these - also, set up a Google Adwords campaign for the auction page while it's ongoing. Might attract some big bucks in the form of interested end users, some of these may go for quite a lot.

Josh,

Thanks for the appraisals. Should I create my own Adwords page or utilize one of the parking pages from Sedo?

Thanks.

Usually, you make much more from your own site.
It seems I get indexed quicker when I use wordpress.

I believe what josh meant was to create an adwords campaign targeting keywords specific to the name(s) your selling. For example if someone types in a search for pizza...your ad comes up saying the domain pizzeria.com is for sale...click here....and a potential buyer may come through that way to the auction. That's just an example.

You may need to put together key words that make sense not only for the domain name but specific to a buyer so you don't waste money on clicks.

Anyways, good luck with the names. There are some good ones in there.

Best,
N Fran

Thanks again for all the great advice. I will research some keyword advertising on AdWords and setup some parking pages as well. Would it be worth having some of the names above appraised by Sedo?

Paid appraisals are a waste of money. I think the appraisals you got here are in the right ballpark.

Yes I did mean that you might want to create a Google Adwords campaign, in which you pay Google to show your ads when a certain keyword is searched for. This way you get exposure for the ongoing auctions. Usually the best and cheapest way to do this is to target only the exact keyword - i.e. "pizzerias", because you don't want someone looking for pizza on the internet clicking on your ads - they are unlikely to convert into a domain buyer...also some other keywords "pizza domain" "restaurant domain" and so on...may be useful. You can get a nice campaign going and only spend 20-30 bucks for the whole duration of the auction.

As for the paid appraisals - I agree with Phronesis in principle, but in your case you might benefit from a SEDO appraisal because SEDO may list your domains on their premium listings once they've done the appraisal - and it doesn't cost that much compared to what your domains are worth.

Also - email SEDO broker to list your names on brokered auctions. I'm pretty sure they'll accept some of these - then you can set a reserve and have them auctioned without the initial bid.

Good luck-
Josh

icorp.com has huge $$$ potential from several Internet corporattions. Do a little research on this and market it individually. Be careful of just throwing good domains into an auction (if you haven't tipped potential buyers from specific industries where and when to look).

For example, for pizzarias and ibanks, e-mail the marketing departments of all the major chains and institutions, and let them know what's going on. It sure can't hurt.

Verbster,

The direct sales approach sounds very interesting. Has anyone on this forum been successful using this method? I will do some research and give it a try.

Reading through this forum has definitely been a great experience. It's especially interesting to see how big the domain name industry has become. I remember registering some good domains back in 1997 using the Internic free 3-month registration and then just losing them. They were around 30 dollars each back then, so it was hard to renew all of them. Oh well.
