I wish I had found this place before, I came here after searching for a person that offered to buy one of my domain names (one that I am actually developing). After reading a few posts I can see that there are many like me here. I like to think of myself as a serial domain collector and addicted to potential businesses using those domains.

I started back in 1999 when I searched for my first domain, hesitated about buying it and when I came back to buy it a month after, somebody from California already had bought it. Since then I have bought and dropped many domain names, and sold one domain and invested my proceedings in an initial for my first home. I have a few catchy domain names on Sedo.com, but there are no real interested parties for them. For some of the domain names that I keep for future businesses I get offers here and then.

Currently I am leasing a domain name with the option to buy. This domain was dear to me (I had a good business plan for it), but the truth is that the buyer/leaser might make a better use of it and my plans are long term. So, if his startup works, he can buy it for what I believe is the value of the domain name, and if his plans change during the 5 years lease, he will return it to me and would have developed some traffic and good will I hope. I truly hope his business plan works more because he seems like a sincere person, but I wouldn't mind getting my domain back. After this arrangement, I augmented my list of domains from 50 to about 150 which is basically investing a portion of the yearly lease of that one domain back into the new domain names.

After searching and testing a bit I have found that Content Management Systems (CMS) might be the way to develop my domains until I can grow the domain/business-idea to the point where I can hire somebody. The CMS that I chose to do this is Drupal, which is an open source solution that will probably allow me to develop many of my domain names in a very rapid, affordable and productive way. This software is Drupal (http://www.drupal.org). If you have a chance, check it; it is similar to Wordpress, a little more work to learn, but it is worth it.

When it comes to my domain names, I like to keep my privacy, which is why I may never reveal my identity openly on this forum. However, I'd like to offer my knowledge (probably more on the business models as they apply to online businesses and the use of CMSs to achieve initial stages of plans) and will certainly make sure I learn from others like me here in this forum.

So, in short, hello from a shy and thoughtful business minded serial domain collector addicted to unrealized business plans. And thanks for a great forum to ideas relating to domain names.

Welcome to NamePros!

Welcome aboard. Thank you for a refreshingly thoughtful introduction.

I'm hooked, too. Got lucky buying a domain in 1995 that I sold for $107,000 last year. Came here when I started to get offers on it a few years ago and wished I'd found NamePros much, much sooner.

Hope you enjoy many happy and profitable returns!

Regards,
Keith
