Okay, I've got a personal domain that I really want to use, but the dot com, dot net, dot us, and dot org are all taken. I contacted each owner and it appears that I'm not getting any of the above for under $10,000.00, so they are off limits for me.

Anyway, I've got the following versions of the name:

dot tv
dot info
dot cc
dot ws
dot biz

The dot mobi is currently available, but as a personal domain I don't think I would have any use for it.

My questions is this... Which one would be the best to use?

I know the dot cc used to be fairly popular, but i don't hear much about them any more. I'm a big fan of the dot tv TLD as a whole, but I'm not sure about it for a personal site that won't have video, and the info extension is kind of long.

Love to hear others input! Are we going to get the dot web sometime here soon?

Please share some more details about "personal domain / site" ... and what it'll be developed into and used for, specifically IMHO. :gl: :music:

Hope to help better fine-tune with your reply. :talk:

The domain is my last name and it will be primarily used as a central portal for my online presence. Links to various sites/blogs I maintain, domains for sale, contact information, etc.

I know the search engines don't really care about the TLD and they are all ranked the same, so I'm mostly looking for which one is the most memorable I guess or the best domain to brand.

Also, are we getting dot web at some point in the near future? I remember talk about that awhile ago.

Unsure of status of .WEB, IMHO. :gl:

You should perhaps try for the .COM in your FirstLast.com, as an alternative to the likely more expensive Last.com, as well ... is this available for you? :talk:

the .info is not too long :) if there will be no video, i would go with the info personally.

Definitely .info from me.

Thanks for the dot web information. Sounds like it is possibly for 2008, but who knows.

I actually have the dot com of my full name, but I was planning on using subdomains for my family members and redirecting the full names dot coms to the subdomain versions (if that makes sense). :)

Looks like a couple votes for dot info. All other input appreciated!

.info if it were me.

Would be pretty cool to have yourcousinsname.yourlastname.info because techinically, people are there looking for info on your family members, right?

Generally, I stay away from four lettered, two syllabled extensions ... particularly for "personal domains / sites", IMHO. :guilty:
Just my two sense.

You're welcome for the ".WEB" info, as well. :)
All the best!

My vote goes to .info too :)

IMHO .tv and .cc are not better than .info for your personal site and they are much more expensive

Is .web for real? sounds cool

One more vote for .info :)

.info seems fitting to me based on what you want to use it for.

I'd get the closest viable .com. If your last name is Jones, try jonesweb or ijones or jonesonline or something. I just think an important site like that should have the strength and presence of a .com.

I would put my vote in for .info as well

Well I'm going against everyone by saying that if it's a personal website, I quite like the use of .cc or .ws. If you'll be using the domain for email addresses I'd prefer the .cc, and if you'll only be using it as a personal website, I'd prefer .ws.
