I was looking around for a .tv name but I've been hearing about search engines not liking the .tv.

Has anyone else heard the same thing? If so, what can I do so I get better search engine rankings with .tv names?

Thanks

How specifically were you told they do not like them? Is this sites runing the me.tv system or all .tv's?

I have www.whistle.tv running on the me.tv tools. The site has been up for approx 6 weeks and I have had over 2000 visitor's. The site is indexed in Google/Yahoo/Msn and other search engines. It is fully site mapped in Google and to be honest I have done zilch SEO work with this site! I am very pleased with this so far and there is no doubt in my mind that .tv is just as good as any other extension when it comes to search engine ranking.

Poppycock.

The search engines give zero preferance to any extension over the other. Depending on your search words and how well optimized you are for SEO, a co.in.org.com could be number 1 or number 600 million.

len, how the hell did you get 2000 visitors so quick? Some of my sites have been around for 3 years and haven't even gotten 1000 visitors.

LOL! You never cease to make me smile even when I have a hangover. Can't say that I have heard that one actually used in any conversation I have been around in real life! Only in the movies! As for the myth of .TV not being liked by search engines... Ummm I really do not think there is any difference or preference to TLD. Only content.

Peppy, to be honest I really don't know! like I said I have done zilch SEO with this site and if you go there and look at the # of visitor's you will see that it is @ 2063 and the site has only been up since June/18/07. So as you can see I don't think .tv's are short changed by the search engines.

i no longer work for allthings.tv - so this is no plug, but tap in "allthings" on google and it comes up on page three - in the space of five months with zero SEO......not bad for 5 months

I just checked one of my .tv's and out of 1,600,000 results for kayaking tv my site kayaking.tv ranks #6 on the first page now I've done nothing but slap a half ass site up and it ranks on the first page of Google. As a matter of fact If you have your keywords in your domain name Google actually shows more favor towards your site.

P.S "kayaking tv" ranks #7 on Google.

NO search engine bias everyone here has domains ranked high such as allthings and kayaking and many many other .tv websites have all ranked high like showbiz said they play no preference with an extension.

I created www.pikespeak.tv 6 days ago 7-23-07

Google:

Keyword: pikespeak

#51 of about 54,600 for pikespeak

Keyword: pikes peak tv
#7 of about 1,090,000

Keyword: pikespeak tv

#2 of about 1,100,000

Im sure after a few months it will be ranked alot higher for alot more keywords. I can't believe how quickly it was ranked, it took me 1 year to get domainacrobat.com ranked #1 for its own keywords. LOL!

That's not my understanding.

My experience has been that Google gives a preference to .org and .edu sites over the other TLDs in many search categories. It does this because it places a higher value on the information that is generally found on these sites. But you can't regard that as gospel for all search categories. In regards to loans and commercial lending practices, for instance, it's logical that preference would be given to .com sites.
