i am looking for some quality hosting. ive done a little bit of looking around and will probably be going for somewhere around $10/month, hopefully a little less. im looking for a few gigs of space as well as plenty of bandwidth. i found a couple sites that might seem like some good possibilities but id like to get everyones opinion. these are some that looked okay at a quick glance:

Block9hosting
bluehost
ComputingHost
Elite Hosting
Globat
iPowerWeb
PowWeb
Startlogic

what are your opinions about these? how would you rank them? do you have any other recommendations?

thanks for your input

How much space/bandwidth were you looking for?

well i said before that i was looking for a few gigs of space and plenty of bandwidth. not that specific but if you look at one of those pages like bluehost, they have a plan that has 4 gigs of space and 100 gigs of bandwidth. powweb has 5 gigs of space and 300 gigs of transfer. im just looking for something around there. its okay if its a little less but i might use more than 1 domain with the hosting account so i just wanted to make sure i have enough.

Are you certain that you're actually going to use these resources?

http://rackforce.com - I love rackforce... i have nothing bad to say about them, they are for the Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and a dedicated server.

http://infrenion.com - shared hosting... GREAT, maybe a bit expensive, but they are probably the most professional webhosting company i dealt with in the past.

Infrenion kicks butt.... you will only find good reviews for them.

well im not completely sure how much i will use. on one site i would be putting up, it would have a lot of files on it. this is mainly where i would need space. on the other site, it would not have any files to download and wont use up nearly as much space as the other but hopefully it would have several people visiting it. i was just looking for a bit higher space and bandwidth to make sure i dont run into any problems. 2 gigs of space would probably be sufficient enough to also have a buffer, but more cant really hurt. im mainly looking for a reliable host that has some good plans for around $10/month.

and thanks to everyone who has replied so far, im looking into the links you have posted.

I've used Ipower for some time and have had reliable service. Granted, the sites I have with them are not resouce hogs, but they stay up. You might check www.ez1web.com as well: I have a dedicated server with them and the system has been rock solid.

I use http://www.pronicsolutions.com they physically run their own data center, a bit more expensive, but onsite hardware and expertise is a BIG bonus in a land full of remote resellers.

I have been very close to trying polurnet.com, and recommended a friend to them. She seem very pleased.

You may want to look hard at exactly what you need. If your budget is $10 a month for a host with 100 gb bandwidth, you may as well start looking for a backup host.

Or two or three for that matter.

File sites are serious business if you plan on offering a lot of files for whatever your topic may be. If you're really expecting to have 2 GBs of files on your site and use up 100s of GBs of transfer than no shared environment is going to host you long. The sites you listed thrive on the concept that you won't use but a very small fraction of the resources that you are "paying for". You get the boot when you exceed the fraction.

I can say with confidence that in 3 years+ of experience in the hosting industry I have never once heard of someone who has used all or nearly all of the resources with the sites like Globat and crew. All I hear are the horror stories at WHT when they starting getting up there. I'm not saying this as a competing host(I refuse to compete with such companies) but as someone who doesn't want to see you in trouble on down the road.

This is THE best deal I've seen for a while:

http://hostony.com/

Hosts 10 domains, Unlimited everything, 7G storage, 100G Bandwidth! I use them, and their offer's expiring soon

It's 6.95/month! Pretty crazy

Oh yeah and just so if you're suspecting, I'm not affiliated with Hostony in ANY way, I'm just a happy client :talk:

PolurNET is awesome. The price is not the best but the uptimee is steady 100% for my 5 months I've been with them :tu:

Try using some web hosting directories like webhostdir, hostingcatalog and such - they usually have some of the top hosts listed there.

good luck!
