This is obviously a political domain, House GOP which is a lightning rod for opinion and conversation. Deciding to develop or sell, so looking for your expertise for value of HouseGOP (dot) com domain but also looking for any insight into monitization ideas.

Cheers!

If nobody has an opinion on the domain, any ideas on how to develop it? Anything more creative than the standard info site? Thanks!

If the domain you have is HouseGOP.com, I imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to sell to a Republican organization or a Republican Party member who wants to protect the brand (or promote it). Someone who supports the Democratic Party might want to own it to do something similar to my development idea below to stick it to Republicans. I would think at least $x,xxx, maybe much, much more.

Here is a development idea off the top of my head….

I enjoy humor and my mind often goes there first. I can imagine a stylish blog that features cartoons or an animated video series that pokes fun at the House GOP or the things they are currently doing. It probably would not take much effort to create funny content because what’s going on in congress would be absolutely hilarious if it was not so disheartening and infuriating sometimes. The key would be working with a talented designer to make sure the cartoons or animations look good.

With good content, good SEO and good marketing you good traffic. Monetization could come from ads and you could also sell branded t-shirts and other novelties.

There are lots of development options for this domain that don’t involve humor, it seems like a great asset to me.

IMHO as a newbie

Then again, the GOP may say:
WTF dude?
Give us the domain or we go after you (and unsaid is we have more high powered lawyers than you could ever find and afford).

Iowadawg you bring up a good point about the GOP trademark. A quick Google search turned up this article http://blog.cafepress.com/?p=127 .

Infringing on trademarks is never a good idea and I would not want to take the risk at this point. Perhaps the development idea I suggested could work with a similar domain that clearly doesn’t violate a trademark.

BTW...some of those t-shirts in the article I linked to are the sort of humor I had in mind with my development suggestion (though your site would not have to be nearly as edgy). Imagine all the controversy, support and traffic you could stir up. The concept still makes me smile and some of those t-shirts in the article I linked are HILARIOUS….so thanks for inspiring me to find those! LOL

That article was hilarious!
The term "glory hole" first ever used by us at a meeting discussing the GOP.
Best line ever!

But does show, the GOP will hound the crap out of any using their name, their elephants, etc.

Freedom of speech in less it infringes on our trademark lol

The only place your are going to hear "House GOP" is in a news article, can't imagine why anyone would search for the term, or how you'd monetize it.

Reg fee imho.

I registered a a bunch of those kind of names back in 2001-2002. I came close to having all 50 states in the form XXGOP.com where XX was the state abbreviation. I thought the politicians would love them and I would make a killing.

In reality they were totally clueless and had no interest whatsoever. I learned that politics, even at the national level is an episodic activity. They only think of the upcoming election. Once it is over they forget about it until the next time. There was no awareness of the kind of continuity required for long term SEO considerations. They drive traffic to whatever domain they are using this time around using all the traditional methods (Newspapers, TV, Door to door, etc.)

I also made some efforts to start a forum on a couple of them and quickly discovered they attracted the most ugly, nasty comments I had the miss-fortune to read.

I realize things may have changed since then, but I suspect not that much. For sure the haters are alive and well with lots of time on their hands.

Most painful of all is during that time period three letter dot coms were available for reg fee, but I knew those odd combinations of funky letters would never be worth anything :(
