A TLD (Top Level Domain) is actually the last part of an URL. Examples of TLD´s are .com, .net, .org and .us. I believe the longest TLDs are .museum and .travel.

I agree that there is no effort in merit in it, besides a neat idea and spending the money (just like any other domain name) to acquire it.

Let me be technical for a second.

.MUSEUM would be the longest TLD
