Hi all,

Just wondering what your views on long domains are? -- Ones that have a few good keywords though too.

Well this domain I've got in mind has 4 words all together. All words in order on overture bring up over 14,000 results. No other extension taken either.

Just wondered what your views are on long domains, even though they have great keywords etc?

:]

i have a sort of long domain: underworld-inc.com

Its currently making 1 euro + a day on sedo, it was once developed and im thinking or re-developing it, i recently found out there was a movie called underworld. so even though they are long they can still do well, if they are nice keywords, reg it, $7 risk could be a nice payout :)

Thanks,

I know, it's only a $7 risk. Not exactly breaking the bank, just was curious to other views!

I'll reg it, see what happens! :bingo:

Any more, experiences?

I asked for similar question here but except Allan (thanks!), I'd no answer...

If they have great keywords, and sound good together, go ahead and reg the domain. It is all about if the user can remember the domain, so you get some good type-in traffic.

I see nothing wrong with long domains as long as it sounds right, and is as short as necessary to get the point across. Apparently others see it the same way by some of the long ones that are reported in DNJournal:.
OneNightInParis.com ( 4 words @ $13.8k)
SouthernCaliforniaCondominiums.com (3 LONG words at $3500)
TheNaturalDrugStore.com (4 @ 3,000)
TreatmentForEatingDisorders.com (4 @ $1800)

I prefer keeping names to 3 or less words, but in some cases I think 4 is okay as long as it's natural language and not just jumbled keywords.

Also, TheDomainNameAftermarket.com redirects to tdnam.com if you haven't noticed.

If the long domains have good enough keywords, etc. i see no problem with them, at all :)

Is anyone using those keywords for advertising? If people are paying big dollars to advertise for those words then it may be a good sign.

One word of caution though. I bought a domain name which was getting 8000+ searches through Overture and the following month it was less than 100.

If the keywords are strong and the name makes sense, it is ok, but personally i think it isn't good and takes to long to type.
